Han Jusuf Mašković

in #history7 years ago (edited)

The Han in Vrana is the most impressive and refined monument of Islamic architecture from the period of the Ottoman Turk s domination in the south-east part of Europe.
It was commissioned in 1644. by Jusuf Pasha Mašković.
Mašković was native of Vrana. He became the most esteemed Croat in the Ottoman Court of the time. He was an admiral of the Turkish fleet and military commander. His plan was to use the Han as an inn and residence after his retirement.

While Mašković was on the journey with his master to Sarajevo in 1630., he was noticed by an Ottoman Court high official. He took Mašković to Istanbul.
In Istanbul, he served as a woodcutter and water boy in the Turkish Court garden. There he was befriended by the future Sultan Ibrahim. At that time Ibrahim was detained by his brother Sultan Murad IV. When Ibrahim became Sultan he invited Mašković to the Court. He became an important advisor and commander of the Turkish fleet.

A few years ago residents of Vrana decided to repair the neglected Turkish palace.
They applied for funding by European Union, and managed to assure 75 % of needed resources.

This Han better than in Turkey. İm really like that. Thank you for post :)

hehe, it is really beautiful. Thank you :)

super! nisam ni znao da rade na njoj. ipak se nešto gradi.

Super su ga obnovili, bas je atrakcija.

Nice story, lovely photos and an amazing restoration project. It seems that when volunteers put their efforts into a project they finally get funding and get to work on it sometimes as well. Well worth the effort and preservation of history.

That was a big project. They did a good job. Thank you.
