History Points, 25th August: Paris is liberated from Nazi forces
On 25th August 1944, Paris is liberated from the German forces by the agreement between American and German Commander. The occupation continues for 4 years and the struggle of French 2nd Armored Division and the U.S. 4th Infantry Division helped the Paris to gain the freedom.
The German garrison commander, General Dietrich von Choltitz, defied Hitler's orders to blow up Parisian landmarks and signed a formal surrender on the day.
