The story begins with King Brawijaya V who embraced Buddhism. This king once stated Islam when meeting with King Campa and Syech Maulana Malik Ibrahim. King Campa brought along his beautiful daughter named Dara Petak. At that time King Brawijaya willing to convert to Islam and become converts if allowed to marry Dara Petak who was already Muslim and wearing a veil.

But apparently the King Brawijaya who converted to Islam merely wanted to marry the daughter made Syech Maulana Malik Ibrahim did not like it. The cleric, who was one of the great scholars of Turkey, advised him and forbade him to convert to Islam because he was forced to marry the daughter. According to the great scholar, should Islam be accepted with a sincere and sincere heart not because there is a specific purpose. But the advice was apparently not heard by the King. So eventually the scholar was farewell and left the King without bringing results.

Finally, the prabu Brawijaya V did manage to marry Dara Petak and convert to Islam. But he still holds Buddha in his heart. After marriage, members of the Muslim kingdom sought to persuade the king to convert to true Islam. Even his queen, Dara Jingga and his other concubines, too, persuaded him but always failed.

Prabu Brawijaya has a spiritual advisor named Ki Sabdo Palon. In Javanese mythology, the name of Ki Sabdo Palon occupies a very important position as well as King Brawijaya itself. According to the story of Ki Sabdo Palon has a high science and very close to the King. Because of his supernatural powers he succeeds in mastering all beings on the island of Java. In Javanese literature, Ki Sabdo Palon is the same figure with a puppet character named Semar. Another name Semar is Bagik Manik Maya who had inhabited the land of Java thousands of years ago.

One day King Brawijaya was very sad because he had a different understanding with his family. One night, the king meditated for guidance to God the Almighty. In his semed he gets a clue if the Majapahit kingdom is time to fade its glory. Now Kedaton revelation will be transferred to the kingdom of Demak. Demak king named Raden Fatah is actually the son of King Brawijaya and Dara Petak. But the different understanding of religion between them makes their relationship unfavorable. Raden Fatah is Muslim, while Prabu Brawijya remains Buddhist.

The grief made him decide to leave the palace with his faithful servant, Ki Sabdo Palon. He crossed the praja to the top of lawu mountain. Before reaching its peak, the two men met with two heads of villages named Dipa Manggala and Wangsa Manggala. They followed King Brawijaya together for not being able to bear to see his king alone in his sorrow. They continued walking towards the summit of Hargo Dalem.

In the midst of the journey the King said to his faithful servant that it is time he withdraws from the world's problems. The King raised Dipa Menggala to become the ruler of Mount Lawu because of his loyalty. He was given the power to oversee all supernatural beings in the west to the mountain Merbabu, from east to Mount Wilis, from south to South Beach and from North to North Beach. Abdi was given the title of Sunan Gunung Lawu. While his other servant, Wangsa Manggala was appointed as his patih and was given the title of Kiai Jalak.

he Prabu told his loyal people, "O my faithful servants, it is time for me to retreat. I have to moksa, and leave this bustling world. "

Along with the words of King Prabu, the loyal people also get the honorable title of the King among them:

  1. Dipa Menggala, became the ruler of Mount Lawu and oversees all supernatural beings from the West to Mount Merbabu, from the East to Mount Wilis, from the South to the South Coast, and from North to the North Coast. In other words, Dipa Menggala earned the nickname as 'Sunan Gunung Lawu'.
  2. House of Menggala, became the patih Sunan Gunung Lawu with the nickname 'Kyai Starling'.
With such a sad decision, Sabdapalon could not bear the sadness of King Prabu, he said goodbye to part with the King and go up to Dumiling Price.

Ki Sabdo A grieving palon tells the King that he too wants to leave this world. He wants to go moksa to the top of Hargo Dumiling and leave prabu here. But Ki Sabdo Palon vowed to return again five hundred years later. Sabdo Palon becomes the protector and keeper of the kings of Java land and can drip on someone.

After that the King of Brawijaya Moksa on the top of Mount Lawu named Hargo Dalem. Now there are only two rulers of Mount Lawu, Sunan Gunung Lawu and Ki Jalak. They still carry out their duty to guard Mount Lawu. Their high science transforms Sunan Gunung Lawu into a supernatural being and transforms the Starling Kiai into an occasional starling. These starlings are ivory colored. Many believe that if visitors encounter this bird, then in fact he intends to either want to give directions to the road so as not to get lost. But if the climbers have a bad temper then Kiai Jyang does not like it will make it bad luck.
