Harappa is archaeological site in Pakistan in the west of Sahiwal , a city of province Punjab in Pakistan . The site of ancient city contains the ruins of bronze age fortified city which is also believed to be part of Indus valley civilization . Harappa is located near the river Ravi . The civilization of harappa has its roots in culture aproximatly 6000 B.C .
Harappa has writting system , urban syetem , social and economic system. civilization of Harappa was rediscovered in 1920 . Both Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa are generally characterized as having "differentiated living quarters, flat-roofed brick houses, and fortified administrative or religious centers."

Clay and stone tablets unearthed at Harappa, which were carbon dated 3300–3200 BC., contain trident-shaped and plant-like markings.
Charles Masson was the first European explorer of Harappa.Through his wide-ranging travels, Masson built up an extraordinary collection of artefacts largely from the modern states of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Numbering about 9,000 objects, they are now held by the British Museum .
The ruins and various evidence of Harappa and Mahenjo-daro reveal a great deal about social and economic life of the people of Indus valley. On examination of the skulls and bones discovered during excavation it is said that the people were either Dravidians or a branch of Indo-Aryans. Some other scholars are of opinion that they were from the same stock of the Sumerians or the Cretans.

The sewerage system was available back then the drainage system was also available . The civilization of Harappa was aware of water drainage and usage they used the water of river ravi whic was very close to the ancient Harappa .

Women in the society were highly respected. The worship of mother goddess indicates that women enjoyed enormous position in the society. They were equally treated like their male counter-part in the society.
