Khanduri Apam; Customs Wrapped in Sufi Traditions

The Khanduri Apam tradition known to the people of Aceh comes from the life history of a very poor Sufi in Mecca named Abdullah Rajab, he is a very devout in practicing Islamic teachings

Due to the very poor, when Abdullah Rajab died there was no feast held by relatives left in his lifetime. He was a very poor person.

Departing from that state Abdullah Rajab's village finally took the initiative to cook a cake that later in Aceh was known as Apam. And that is what happened to Khanduri Apam in Aceh until now.

In addition, some say that the background of the implementation of Khanduri Apam is to give a deterrent effect to men who do not pray Friday three times in a row, then will be sentenced to make Apam up to hundred fruit and brought to the mosque to be eaten together - and this will have a shame for the man, because if he keeps making Apam he will be labeled as a very lazy person to the mosque for Friday prayers.
