One of the Oldest Street in Philippines the Colon Street, Cebu City
I took this photo a while ago, as I'm heading to my school. Colon Street is one of the oldest street in the Philippines. Colon was named after by Cristóbal Colón or also known as Christopher Columbus in spanish translation.
Colon street looks a lot different of what it had been before.
This old photo of Colon Street above was published by the Cebu City Government in 1970.
Colon Street may look like any ordinary street but this crowded by shops, sidewalk vendors, people,
and jeepneys.
Colon street was once the heart of Cebu City's shopping and business activity. Way back year 80's the street was home to many fashionable shops, offices and cenimas according to my Grandmother. But in year 90's the mall culture of America also found its way into the Philippines Malls such as SM and Ayala. This began to threaten business in Colon as shoppers moved towards Malls due to their airconditioning and relaxing ambience temperature.
