RE: The Tales of Pirates - “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet
ohhhhh well now i have to go back and read about him! hehehehe
and pirate justice.... isn't that an oxymoron??? hehe
i didn't realize that the left symbol was one... it looked like 2 symbols linked together hehe but now i see the dagger - thanks! :) you really do know a ton about pirates ;)
How is it an oxymoron? Justice and law are rarely the same thing. For example at the time enslaving African people was legal at the time, but I wouldn't call it right. On the other hand pirates were pretty democratic among themselves and didn't care about ones background or race as long as they were capable ;)
hehehehe well i guess i wouldn't call what they do as just. but I guess if they followed their own set of codes... then... it's THEIR own justice LOL
I wasn't really thinking of law... i was thinking more of what justice really implies. fairness, peace... that sort of thing.
i dont' think of that when i think of pirates! LOL i think of chaos, disorder, stealing, rampaging, etc. pirate CODE? yeah... i can see a set of codes that they all agreed upon. but pirate JUSTICE.... hmmmm you'll have to do some more convincing for me to see that one hahahahaha
and i agree... i wouldn't call slavery "justice" either. LOL
We all associate the chaos with pirates. That is mostly a consequence of pop culture. You need a great amount of discipline, certain set of rules and hierarchy to operate a ship and manage the crew of 50-200 people. ;)
agree!!! I had friends that were sailors. They were part of the crew of the HMS Bounty for years -Sadly, this is the tall ship that sank in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy :(
They lived on that boat for many years - loved the life! We got a tour of the tall ship... pretty amazing!
I was so sad when that tragedy struck. Thankfully my friends were part of the crew that escaped with their lives! One crew member and the captain did not survive :(
