Architecture of an ancient civilization

Thats me at the very top of the pyramid of the sun. (It wasn't an easy task xD)

THE AZTECS

The Aztec civilization was well known for its crude sacrificial rituals, which (according to them) were needed to appease the gods wrath. Captured warriors were often stripped off their still pumping hearts! A decisive, Accurate, strong blow to the chest with an obsidian knife was enough to cut open the poor victim's chest. Once the heart was removed, the body was pushed down the stairs only to be torn appart by the folk witnessing the event..

Several more rituals were executed for many different reasons.. but enough with the pretty talk, on the positive side the Aztecs had advanced knowledge in Math, medicine, architecture, astronomy and agriculture (they even found a way to modify corn genes though selective reproduction).

Among all aspects architecture is were we will be focusing our attention today, specially in The "Sun" and "Moon" pyramids and "Feathered serpent" temple located at teotihuacan, Mexico. These ancient pyramids were built thanks to a strong knowledge in mathematics and Astronomy, and served for different purposes.

Lets briefly check them out!

THE PYRAMID OF THE SUN

This is the tallest building standing in teotihuacan and actually one of the biggest buildings in Mesoamerica! Its 65 m tall (213 ft) with a base length of 893 m (2929 ft). There is a lot of mystery sorrounding this 2000 year building purposes other than it was related to two opposed elements: water and fire, both considered indispensable for sustaining life. "Huehuétotl" (god of fire) displayed at the top of the structure support this theory. There are also clues of an early representation of "Tlaloc"(god of water) scattered inisde the building.

THE PYRAMID OF THE MOON

This structure is 45 m tall (147 ft) with a base length of 150m (492 ft), it had 7 build phases starting at year 100 aC to 650 aC. It was erected to give cult to the moon goddes, right infront of the main building lies the moon square which contains a central altar and an arrange of four smaller rectangular constructions called "the teotihuacan cross".

Thats me again visitng the site (No climbing this time..)

THE TEMPLE OF THE FEATHERED SERPENT

Also called "Quetzalcóatl's" temple. This one stands out for its rich and complex decoration, without a doubt one of the most beautiful buildings around! This building is related to the creation of time and the calendar and puts the feather serpent as the supreme ruler of the contemporary gobernors.

WHAT IF....

There are similar buildings located at Egypt, Indonesia, India, China and at a few more places around the world. Take a second to analyse the next picture:

You can't deny the similarities!! The fact that some of this civilizations developed in different time periods but managed to have a lot of their practises in common have always amazed me.

Pretty interesting huh? well Check this second fact:

Many of the pyramidal structures (orion belt) are somehow aligned... Coinsidence or not theres a growing theory that postulates that pretty much all ancient cultures  conformed a global civilization at one time. I am not too sure about that one, because like I mentioned before they raised, developed and fell in different time periods.

I'll leave these thoughts for your consideration.

Thats all for now fellow Steemers! See you next time!
