The Somali Uprising has gone down in history under various terms, including "Somali National Liberation Struggle", "Somali Campaign" and "Anglo-Somali War". At its core, this war was a set of British operations conducted over 21 years and aimed at destroying the young statehood in Somalia. Due to its own chronological framework, the uprising became one of the episodes of the First World War. During this war, the interests of the indigenous people, the British, the Ethiopians, the Italians, the Turks and the Germans were resolved.
The uprising began at a time when the British Crown began to lose control over its own colony of Somalia. In a fairly short period of time, a state of the so-called Dervishes was created on the territory of Somalia, headed by Mohamedo Hassan. The latter received the nickname "Mad Mullah" in historiography. It was Hassan who not only began the creation of the Somali army, state institutions, but also declared a real war against Europeans, in particular the colonizers.
The most important events of this war took place in the periods from February to June 1903, January-May 1904 and in 1919-1920, namely the uprising, as well as the Somali state was destroyed after the British bombing of the capital Taleh in early 1920.
