A Brief History of tulips

in #history8 years ago

History of tulips began a long time ago, and the first mention of them was in the manuscript of the Bible in the XI-XII centuries. It also was painted tulip image itself.

Tulip - a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the lily family

Where not only meet the tulips, but they are considered the birthplace of Central Asia. And the name is derived from the Persian word "turban", ie headdress, which looked like a tulip flower. And the most passionate fans of tulips were Turks. They grew their entire fields. And even the tulip has become a symbol of the Byzantine Empire, the successor to Turkey, and to this day is one of the characters.

Thanks to the Ambassador at the Turkish court tulip came to Germany in the city of Augsburg in 1554, followed by Vienna and the Vienna Garden. The director of this garden K.Kluzius engaged in breeding and in the future seeds and bulbs were sent to friends and acquaintances. And multiplied throughout Europe tulips. First, traders resold them in Germany, then in France and after went to Austria. In the Netherlands they were in 1570, when K.Kluzius came to work and brought with him the bulbs. And I went to the era of tulips in Holland. We began to breed new varieties, selling them to various countries for the big money. Tulips began to sell on the stock exchanges. They were valued very expensive, and even has a story about the buyer, who for one tulip variety gave the whole pub.

In Russia, the first bulbs were under Peter I in 1708, when they were brought from Holland. We bought them naturally wealthy people and grown only on their estates.

Now an international registry recorded about 2,500 varieties of these flowers. But in all there are about 10 thousand species.
