The Roman economy was very prosperous
- Agriculture was a basic activity. Wheat, grapes and olives were the main crops. Many of the agricultural techniques of the Romans have continued to be used until recent times. They used wine presses and oil, and used mills moved by donkeys to grind the cereal. One of the most important inventions was the Roman plow, which continues to be used in our with hardly any variation, and which was used to remove the earth.
- Mining focused on gold, silver, iron, copper, tin, lead and mercury. Salt was exploited on the Mediterranean coasts, used to jump and conserve food.
- The craftsmanship was varied and developed. The Romans specialized each region in the production of certain products. For example, wheat was produced in southern Italy and northern Africa, minerals were mined and oil was produced in the Iberian peninsula, quality wine was made in Gaul, among others.
