The Legend of Malin Kundang

Malin Kundang is clever child but a bit mischievous. He often chasing chickens and hit it with a broom. One day when Malin was chasing a chicken, he tripped over a stone and injured his right arm exposed rocks. The wound became scar on his arm and can not be lost.

Feeling sorry for his mother, who worked hard for a living to raise themselves. Malin decided to migrate in order to become rich after returning home later. Initially his mother does not agree, considering her husband never returned after a wander away, but Malin continued to insist that he finally had to give up Malin go wander aboard a merchant ship. Malin Kundang a lot to learn about seamanship on the crew who are already experienced.

Along the way, suddenly boarded Malin Kundang ship attacked by pirates. All merchandise traders who were on the ship was seized by pirates. In fact, most of the crew and people on the ship were killed by the pirates. Malin Kundang lucky, he was hiding in a small space that is enclosed by a wood that was not killed by the pirates.

Malin Kundang adrift in the middle of the sea, until finally boarded his ship was stranded on a beach. With the remaining power, Malin Kundang walked to the nearest village from the beach. Malin marooned villages where the village is very fertile. With tenacity and perseverance in work, Malin gradually managed to become a very rich man. It has a lot of merchant ships with men of more than 100 people. Having become rich, Malin Kundang marry a girl to be his wife.

Malin Kundang news who have become rich and have been married until well into the ears of his mother. His mother feel grateful and very happy his son had succeeded. Since then, Malin's mother every day to go to the pier, waiting for her son may return to his hometown.

After a long marriage, Malin and his wife set sail with the crew and the bodyguards were many. Malin's mother who saw the arrival of the ship to the dock saw two people standing on the deck of the ship. She believes that the standing it was her son and wife.

Malin's mother was toward the ship. Once close enough, his mother saw twelve wounds in the right arm of Malin, the  more assured his mother that he was approached Malin Kundang. "Malin Kundang, my son, why did you go so long without sending any news?" She said, hugging Malin Kundang. But to see old ladies dressed in shabby and dirty hugged him, Malin Kundang became angry even though he knew that the old woman was his mother, because he was embarrassed when it is known by his wife.

Gets treated like that of her son, Malin's mother was very angry.  She did not suspect that her son became a rebellious people. Because her anger is mounting, Malin's mother cursing her son, "Lord, if it is true he is my son, I swear he became a stone!!!".

Not long after Malin Kundang went sailing back and in the middle of the trip came a violent storm destroys the ship of Malin Kundang. After that Malin Kundang body slowly becomes stiff and gradually eventually shaped into a stone. Until now Malin Kundang's stone can still be seen at a beach named Aia Manih, in the southern city of Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia.
