KALAMALKA LAKE ~ SNOWSHOEING ADVENTURE VOL. 1

in #hiking7 years ago (edited)

Today my partner @silasdavid and I went on our first snowshoeing adventure of the season. For this adventure we chose to go to Kalamalka Lake. The lake is located in the beautiful Okanagan in Vernon bc. The conditions were really great, clear sunny skies and -2C. Upon arrival we noticed that the fresh snowfall from the past 2 days (about a foot) was really fluffy powder, so the snowshoes weren't required...but we used them anyways because I just got new snowshoes and I had to try 'em out! If you'd like... Come join us on our fun little #adventure !!!

The reflection was particularly beautiful today which was perfect for taking photos. The angle of the sun was just at that right spot to create a good range of contrast and color in the images, magic hour!

In our next couple photo's is an area called "Rattlesnake Point", which is a dramatic arm that forms the northern end of Cosens bay (another area of Kalamalka Lake) . Kalamalka Lake has so much to offer. There's a rock climbing area located at the other end of the lake past Cosens bay called Cougar Canyon with an epic area called Moss Hollow at the bottom past the climbing platforms. At Rattlesnake Point where we were, the average round trip is about 6km with a variety of connecting trails, including a pet beach for the doggo's and there owners. A lot of people go cliff jumping at the point in the summer. There's a few different places to jump from at different heights, plus an amazing 360 degree viewpoint of the lake at the top.

I myself, have jumped off the cliffs and they're some of the best cliffs to jump off of. There's a 50 footer thats quite epic! you have to run and jump out a bit, away from the rock wall to make it tho... guess its kinda sketchy lol. If you like to live dangerously... then its the place for YOU!

The sky was so clear, with a nice blue gradient effect across it. A welcome break to the overcast winter weather. This area has so many lookout areas, it's fantastic for taking short breaks during the up-and-down hike. In the many years we've come back here, it never seems to get old. There is just something magical about it...

For us... getting out and going #hiking is essential. It's our opportunity to connect with nature and source. To truly be in the moment and take in all the beautiful surroundings we're so grateful to live near. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my time. With the person I love the most in this life.

Yes, that was a beautiful post by @cloudkate. The 'Rattlesnake Ridge' seem to be an amazing place to be. I can't wait to see more of it!

Agreed! Me neither! :)

Thank you so much! We want to make hiking our full time job so your support means a lot to us. It will only get better as we acquire new gear which will help us to better document our adventures. There will be plenty more to come!

You're welcome! Making a living out of hiking would be an absolute dream and I'd love to support you along the way!

Maybe you could talk to @derekrichardson, he is a professional tour guide in California and a great guy! When I had some question, he took a lot of time to answer them. I resteemed some of his posts, so you should find him easily in my blog, if you don't know him by now. ;-)

Whoaaa you did an amazing job. I particularly appreciate the reflexion on the water. With that colours it's insane !

Thank you @robins... it was breathtaking to say the least! the whole hike was so amazing. The sun was shinning the whole time. The colors were so good for the water photos. I was so pleased with how the reflection pics turned out. Man I feel so blessed to live 20 min from this lake! The name "Kalamalka' means water of many colors. The local natives named it that because the water in the summer is different shades of beautiful blues, greens and turquoise colors. The different minerals in the lake are what give the water so many different hues of blue. I can't wait till summer to do a post about it!!! The greyish winter skies don't do it justice. :) Take casre! cheers

Everything that is done with love really makes it feel perfect. I know this very well. you made me feel this feeling again. As my exams are over, I will start my trip with my boyfriend again. Thank you for writing this beautiful and for making me feel. Successful :)

@lawyerslove Thank you for your wonderful comment... It makes me happy that our love can, will, does bring it out in others. Thats truly what the mission is... to ignite that fire inside of us and everyone we encounter to grow and evolve into a deeper understanding of love. Which is what we are anyways. <3 cheers!
