Sierra Peak burn zone
I hiked to Sierra Peak today, the northern most peak in the Santa Ana Mountains. Last September, the Canyon Fire burned 2600 acres including this peak. The fire swept over it and burned quite a bit on the other side. It had been 4 years since my first visit and I wanted to get a close up view of what the fire did to the area. Amazingly, only one tower out of seven was severely damaged. Another was toasted but operational. The rest looked undamaged. It will probably be a very long time for the vegetation to return. 17 miles round trip, 2500' gain on easy dirt roads.
As I got close, I could see the whole summit was charred
One of the towers was destroyed
