Devil Gulch Falls

in #hike6 years ago

Devil Gulch is a deep gash in the San Gabriel Mountains north of L.A. There are no trails to get in or out. The gulch ends in the San Gabriel River, but a 90' waterfall blocks the entrance to it. We dropped into the gulch by travelling cross country from the river and down steep slopes. Devil Gulch was filled with vegetation, running water, poison oak, and rotting trees. We went upstream to the second large waterfall, then down to overlook the first one.

Whoa! I've been to the first waterfall a few times, but I've never climbed up passed it. My friend was telling me that the upper part of the canyon is really cool, and from your pictures it definitely looks like it. I'm gonna have to get up there sometime.
