How to dress for a high tea/fancy tea party.

Wondering what to wear for a high tea event ?Then here are just some guidelines on how to get your outfit right for a high tea event.

Tea parties are nowadays fancy events which evolved from the former days when English people would put in a lot of effort dressing up for afternoon teas.If the invitation indicates a dress code then it makes life easier, follow that dress code as closely as possible,so that you won't look like a fish out of water. If there is no dress code specified then the attire you wear should be semi formal/smart casual as is customary.

So :
1.Dress with extreme class, no tacky looks,no extremely short skirts,no excessive shows of cleavage etc ,wear modest hems and modest necklines.

2.Flaunt girly,feminine styles.

3.You can almost never go wrong with lace at a fancy tea party.

4.Midi length for dresses and skirts is the best for such an occasion.Remember we are going for a classy look here.Or wear a length which is at the knee or just above the knees.

5.Wear soft bright and pastel colors.Try to avoid gloomy colors unless maybe its winter. If its winter and you are wearing somber colors like grey brighten up the outfit by opting for girly styles such as ruffled garments,or accessorize with bows ,flowers or brooches.Black is usually a no no for a tea party despite the season. Color options you can go for are:Lilacs,Greens,Teal,Soft Rose,Violet,Turquoise,Champagne etc

6.Prints -Avoid animal prints like zebra, leopard etc. This is an elegant party not a jungle party!!Also avoid any other stark prints. You can however wear floral prints or polka dots.(remember point2,we are flaunting girly looks here) .

7.If you want to wear pants/trousers choose an elegant pair of pants /trousers and pair it with a silk blouse or any other feminine blouse.

8.Gloves-most people skip the gloves nowadays but if you would want to wear gloves ,go for a pair which matches your outfit ,white/cream usually goes with most outfits.

9.The hat-most people opt for fascinators nowadays but hats which are usually worn at weddings and race horses are also appropriate. The hat needs to be stately ,think royalty, think the Queen of England, that should help steer you in the right direction, don't just drop on the first floppy hat you see.

10.Accessories-wear elegant accessories e.g pearls ,brooches, bracelets, silk scarves, headbands, bows, silk stockings, dainty rings.Remember not to over accessorize as this can overshadow your outfit.

So there you have it,your very own how to dress for a high tea party guideline.

The last high tea I had I was in high school, as a senior. My dressing was default, though on point, a royal blue school blazer, looking like a decorated medieval war general, crisp white shirt, maroon and blue spiral tie, black pants with dangerously weaponised iron creases, anquored on spit-polished frictionless surface school edition laced shoes, topped by a shimmering bold head and a painted always on smile. My etiquette was straight out of an encyclopedia, adhered to like a breathing manual, the angles on my arms, well measured, the limited knee bends, the mechanical head-neck movements, the fake cockney accent, yes rounded my vowels and even speech dotted my i's and crossed my t's- still I lost the girl - now am just an unkempt rafian with a closet full of camouflage. -

@sarahf good piece, you may need to spice with photos or pictures to add a visual appeal, it also helps sometimes. Just followed you

thanks @verengai hadn't thought of adding any photos.following back :)
