RE: Becky's Happy Mule Cafe
@aunt-deb -- I love the food up your way!!!
Have you ever been to an ice cream parlor in New Buffalo called Oink's Dutch Treat? There are also a couple of my favorites that have closed with one being in Town Of Pines and the other in Michigan City. I hope you had the chance to try them before they closed: Pumps On 12 and Westy's M&M.
Nice to meet you, @ainsleyjo1952! Oink's sounds familiar. Haven't been there, but I'm sure I've driven by it. I remember Pumps on 12. Had forgotten it, 'til you reminded me just now! Sadly, I missed Westy's. The small diner / family restaurants have such a hard time making it these days. It's a shame, because the food is usually superior to anything you find at the fast-food joints.
Be sure to look for it the next time you're in New Buffalo. They have another location somewhere else, but I forgot just where.
Anderson is starting to have people coming in to open up new independently-owned restaurants to go with some that go way back with the oldest way-back ones being The Lemon Drop and The Toast Cafe. Both of those have been operating since the early 1950s. Not sure, but The Toast Cafe might have begun operating in the 1940s. Anyway, they have been around for as long as I can remember.
Will do!
Nice to hear y'all have some growth going on in your area. It's great to have choices. I'm betting the older establishments, having been around that long, are going to set a pretty high bar for the new-comers to meet.
