Respiratory: Write three different herbs for the support of respiratory health other than discussed in this lecture. Include their benefits and reasons why they help in respiratory health. (2 Marks)


LEMONGRASS (Cymbopogon)


Lemongrass has significant benefits, and it is known as a versatile herb; that is why I am writing about it very first. Below, I am presenting the benefits of lemongrass.

  • Lemongrass has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • It also contains antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
  • Consuming, inhalation, or oil massage of lemon grass improves our overall lung function.

Reasons It Helps In Respiratory Health


  • Tea of lemongrass reduces inflammation, clears mucus.
  • Lemongrass steam inhalation provides a sensation which clears our nasal passages.
  • It also fights viruses and bacteria, which are responsible for respiratory infections.

TULSHI(Ocimum tenuiflorum)

Tulshi is the best herb which supports your respiratory health. I should have mentioned this herb first. When I was a kid, my mother used this for our respiratory issues.

  • Tulsi strengthens our immune system. It is a medicine for all diseases.
  • Tulsi leaves can prevent asthma and various lung diseases.
    Tulsi leaves contain radio-protective elements that destroy tumour cells.
  • It removes mental depression in people and increases the supply of oxygen to the brain.
  • Tulsi leaves are considered a great medicine for cold-related diseases

Reasons It Helps In Respiratory Health


  • Tulsi or holy basil is rich in many essential oils. Among them are eugenol, camphene, and cineole, and it has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and expectorant properties.
  • It fights bacteria and viruses which can cause respiratory infections like colds, coughs, and asthma.

GINGER(Zingiber officinale)

  • Ginger significantly helps prevent cold or flu infections.
  • Ginger helps to keep our respiratory system healthy and normal.
  • Ginger contains anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce inflammation in our digestive system.

Reasons It Helps In Respiratory Health


  • Ginger contains fiber and the fiber in ginger improves our digestion. There are two types of compounds: gingerol and shogaol in ginger. These two compounds increase the production of human digestive enzymes.
  • Ginger has some warming properties, and that help to prevent blockages in the respiratory system.

I also want to mention the Mint herb, known for its natural ability to support respiratory health. Mainly the extract of mint is effective for our nasal passages.


Iron Deficiency: Write about three herbs which help in the iron deficiency. Make a herbal remedy which can boost the iron level in the body. Please explain how it works in the body? (3 Marks)


Iron deficiency is the most common problem in our country, and doctors suggest preventing iron deficiency by consuming natural herbs which are available in our surroundings. There are so many herbs that can fulfil our iron deficiency and are rich in iron. Below, I am presenting three herbs.


Moringa Leaves

Moringa leaves are a powerhouse of iron, so when I saw this question, I decided to write about it first. Also, it contains vitamin C, calcium, and protein. We know iron deficiency leads to anaemia and moringa leaves or powder Increase the production of hemoglobin.

Role in Iron Deficiency:


  • The high bioavailable iron content makes moringa ideal for anaemia.
  • High vitamin C in moringa enhances iron absorption.

Raisins

Raisins are also rich in non-heme iron. It is known as natural candy because It contains natural sugars. It also contains vitamins like B-complex, vitamin C.

Role in Iron Deficiency:


  • Raisins contain the trace element copper, which helps our iron management.
  • Natural sugars provide quick energy; we all eat raisins for instant energy.
    Raisins are good source of copper which plays vital role in iron metabolism.
  • Helps in the formation of RBC
  • It also contains vitamin C which helps in iron absorption.

Spinach

Spinach is well-known for its high iron content along with folate, vitamin C, and other nutrients essential for the production of RBC.

Role in Iron Deficiency:


  • Although spinach contains non-heme iron, it also has oxalates that can inhibit iron absorption. Pairing spinach with vitamin C-rich foods helps counteract this effect, improving absorption.

Herbal Remedy to Boost Our Iron Levels


This remedy is a preferable natural solution to boost our iron levels, help in preventing anaemia, and improve our energy . So Let's start,

Making Process


Step- I


First, I took fresh moringa leaves and cleaned them properly. Here I will use only extract of moringa leaves. If you have moringa powder then you can use it too.

Then I take 1 cup of water and add moringa leaves. Then let it boil.

In this step, I pour the moringa extract into a glass. Then add 1 tbs honey for sweetness. Honey is the natural resource of sugar. You can use sugar instead of honey.

Now I will add raisin and date pest which I blended and I will add this for extra richness of iron. You can skip this step if you want.

Finally, I added 1 tbs lemon juice for flavour and also a great source of Vitamin C. Then, I mixed it properly with a spoon, and I was done.

How This Remedy Works in the Body


  • This tea is particularly beneficial for Whom who are suffering from anemia or iron deficiency because moringa leaves are a natural source of non-heme iron which helps in the production of Hemoglobin.
  • This tea boosts our energy and reduces our fatigue cozs the ingredients of this remedy like raisins and dates are quick energatic.
  • Raisins are great source of oron and sugar.
  • This tea have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  • 2nd ingredient of this tea is Lemon, which is a rich source of vitamin C (moringa leavrs also contain Vitamin C) as we all know an it significantly enhances the absorption of non-heme iron.
  • Honey contains trace minerals such ad magnesium, potassium, and of course iron.

How The Patients Can Use Celery In Daily Life To Maintain And Regulate Blood Pressure.


  • Eat 2-4 stalks of celery or more daily as a snack, in curry, or in salads.
  • One can make fresh juice of celery and drink 1 cup daily. Combine other fruits for better flavor.
  • Celery in soups is very common and tasty. Maximum people of our country consume celery in soups in winter.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)


We all are familiar with Cinnamon which improves blood flow by dilating blood vessels. It also contains antioxidant properties . It also helps regulate blood sugar, which is connected to blood pressure (BP) control.

How The Patients Can Use Cinnamon In Daily Life To Maintain And Regulate Blood Pressure.


  • Making tea with cinnamon and drink 1 cup daily. One can use Cinnamon powder instead of stick.

  • Cinnamon mostly use is meat. One can comsume it is meat curries.

  • Morning drink with cinnamon powder and hot water is perfect for a new refreshing day.


Garlic (Allium sativum)


The third one is Garlic which contains allicin. Allicin relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. So garlic is an amazing option for control high blood pressure.

How The Patients Can Use Cinnamon In Daily Life To Maintain And Regulate Blood Pressure.


  • Raw or clushed 1-2 cloves of garlic and let them sit for 10 minutes before consuming
  • Add garlic to soups and regular curry.
  • Take garlic cloves and roasted in mustard oil. Consume before sleep.

My Preferred Remedy for High Blood Pressure

First I took a pan and Boil 2 cups of water.

Then I chopped celery, crushed garlic, and pour these with cinnamon stick as per my recommended quantity . Again boil it for 10 minutes.

In this step, I Strain the mixture into a cup. Look at the colour. How cool is it.

Then lemon juice and honey for flavor. If you want you can add sugar instead ot honey and skip lemon juice. When I add lemon jouice magic happened, the colour of my drink changed (haha).

  • Garlic directly helps to lower our blood pressure.
  • Cinnamon increases blood flow in the human body and stabilizes blood sugar.
  • Lemon and honey provide additional antioxidants.

Daily Use for Blood Pressure Regulation


  • Morning: As a form of morning tea with my provided remedy.
  • Lunch/Dinner: Useing all these ingredients or individual one in curry, soup or salads.
  • Hydration: Drink celery juice or cinnamon with hot water during the day.

Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)


Green tea increases heart rate and blood pressure by stimulating the nervous system and improving blood flow (for a while)

How The Patients Can Use Green Tea In Daily Life To Maintain And Regulate Blood Pressure.


  • Eat green tea as tea once in a day.
  • In my country some people consume directly new and baby leaves of tea with lemon. Just choped finely and then crushed it again, mixed with chopped lemon and eat.

Basil Leaves (Ocimum basilicum)


We all are familiar with Basil leaves stimulate adrenal function and low our blood pressure.

  • Making tea with basil leaves and drink 1 cup daily.
  • Chew fresh basil leaves 4-5 in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Add fresh basil to soups, salads.
  • Drink extrack of basil leaves 1 tbs daily.

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)


Black pepper stimulates our circulation and increases heart activity, which helps in low blood pressure.

  • Making tea with a pinch of black pepper in our regular tea.
  • Add black pepper to soups and regular curry.
  • make hot drinks with Black Pepper.

How This herbs Works:


  • The primary function of green tea is temporary enchance blood pressure.
  • Basil leaves basically help to stabolized our blood pressure.
  • Blacknpepper enhances our circulation and complements the effects of above to herbs.

Daily Use for Blood Pressure Regulation


  • Morning: As a form of morning tea, chew basil leaves on emty stomach.
  • Lunch/Dinner: Useing all these ingredients or individual one in curry, soup or salads.
  • Hydration: Drink celery juice or cinnamon with hot water during the day.
