The beauty of risk - An article by helpienaut @oghie

There are lots of questions regarding this issue, questions like; why should we take risk, how do we differentiate a bad risk from a good risk, what makes a risk big and what are the impacts of taking this risks.

What therefore is a planned risk?

For instance, lets say you were asked this few questions below;

''Would you cross an express road with 3 lanes with swift moving traffic? Your answer will be no right?

What about if the same person asked you ''if you would cross the same express road with 3 lanes of the same traffic at night? i know your answer will still be no right?

Now lastly, if the person still asked, ''would you cross an express road with a 3 lane fast traffic but this time with a pedestrian crossing? Your answer will definitely be yes.
Did you observe how the risk changed? Don’t forget it is still the same road, same cars and the same traffic, but we just surpassed from a risk that we weren’t prepared for to the one that has a component and expected out come. This is absolutely what a planned risk looks like. Quitting your present job right now and replacing it with a business by the side of the road will be a no-no answer for you right? The thing about planned risk is that, they work with the available emotion, feelings, belief or perceptions at the exact time before taking the risk. For this reason, we might have seen a preacher or a teacher telling the congregation or his students to ''Take the risk". Nevertheless, if you actually take some time out to see who really did take the risk out of 100% you’ll discover that atleast 20% did take the risk and the remaining 80% gave deaf ears.

One of the problems we have in this world presently is simply because people fail to take risk at some certain points in life. I’ve seen people turn down life changing contracts, delay in saying ‘‘yes’’ to marriage, delay an important conference meeting with great men. The whole motive and reason is simply because they fail to calculate the risk with an outcome that they believe will be tolerable.

Are all risk planned?

Believe it or not, there is a light at the end of every tunnel.

Amusingly, this could be found in children, they sometimes risk blind for a while. They keep doing stupid things at their own will, it is we the adults that always stand at their backs screaming ''stop it!" ''don’t do that! But the question still remained UN-answered, will children stop doing stupid things? i bet you don’t know the answer to this.
The naked truth is, we would never have been in existence if we didn’t take those risks, in other for a pregnant woman to deliver successfully she must take the risk of ‘‘pushing’’, in other for us to walk as new babies we must first of all take the risk of learning how to work, falling and rising.

One thing about risk is that there is always an unending joy ignited in us if the risk tends to end well, or as planned. Most parents or guidance will always have a story to tell of how their children skipped their minds, or scared the hell out of them with something stupid or bizarre. How ever, we all need to pass the risk-test before we can get what we want or we will all still be sitting in the baby cars pushing before we could go anywhere we want to.

Great and successful individuals attain great heights simply because they have already prepare their minds to risk it.

Face your fears and take the risk

There is absolutely no way floyd Mayweather would have been bastardly rich if he had refused to fight with Conor Mcgregor that gave him about $billion. That’s equivalent to 100 thousand bitcoins. He undoubtedly broke the history of boxing and all sports, and this also made him the highest paid athlete. This would never had happened if Floyd Mayweather refused or delayed facing his fears and not taking the risk.

The road to greatness is never a smooth ride, there are always obstacles and challenges that will make it a bumpy and uncomfortable ride. However, the way surpass through those obstacles are what truly defines us.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Understanding the word Risk and being able to actually apply what it means in our daily lives are two different things. For instance, when I was little I had no fear for things, I was ready to do anything to make ends meet for myself and younger ones. I was ready to risk all it takes to actually achieve a lot. Until I let Fear take a better hold of me due to the experiences I have had interacting with various personalities.
I would further say that I understand what Risk is but I fear the possible outcome. Which could be positive or negative.
This actually leads to my question How do I overcome my fears which limits my ability to take risk?

You simply overcome your fear by taking the risk! It's as simple as that. You need to understand that life itself is a risk.
