Appeal for a small help

(our house surrounded by water)

I am a resident of the state of Kerala. As you might have heard by now, our state is devasted by floods due to dam spills and heavy rains.

August 15 morning

I got up at 5.00 in the morning to prepare breakfast for my son who was preparing to go to college for the Independence day celebrations. I looked out of the house and got the shock of my life. Our house was surrounded by water.

I called my husband and son and they too noticed the white belt around the yard. When it was about seven, we could see the water. My husband and son went up to the road and saw that it was under water and the waters were rising rapidly. Needless to say, he did not go to college.

(the makeshift rescue raft built to rescue 45 stranded workers from a nearby factory across the road)

By afternoon, it had entered our farm area where the rubber trees stood.

August 15 8.30 PM

The water was approaching our door step where our Tulasi plant stood. By this time, my brother in law and my brother told us to evacuate. We were hesitant but my bil's wife called again and pleaded with us to shift to a nearby hotel.

I suggested shifting to our nearby friend's house whose late mother was my husband's teacher. We packed a few clothes, medicines and candles, lighters, torches and biscuits and called our neighbour who was only too welcome to accommodate us and our cows. We shifted at 11.00 in the night. The power had been cut in the morning itself.

Before we left, we had placed our computer system, gadgets and other stuff up on the concrete berth so that it won't get wet if the water entered. Thanks to God, it remains unaffected.

The floods destroyed our state like no other disaster has ever done. So many people lost their lives because they did not evacuate on time. The situation is still worse because so many places are isolated, medicines and food scarce and many people are stranded because roads have been destroyed.

August 17

We returned to our house in the morning. The water has receded a little bit but our well was flooded and now not usable. We need a lot of money to repair the well and to compensate for the loss from the damage to the farm.

I ask for help from fellow Steemit users. If you can, please help by voting this post, resteeming or sending steem or funds to my BTS account ds995.

August 18

The net connectivity has resumed. We are still under stress. We have run out of vegetables, wheat flour and will soon run out of cooking gas. There is no electricity.

I thank God and all of my well wishers whose prayers saved us from this calamity.

Meanwhile, someone has stolen a square-shaped tank meant for disinfecting, while we were away. It costs around 4k.

Please help!

My heartfelt thanks in advance

Glad that you and your family are safe. How is the condition there as of now? Still raining?

Thanks, dear. The rain is still there but in intervals. I hope it has lessened in Idukki. Our house is ok as compared to others but our well is beyond hope and no power.
