Question about rewards

Hey steemians,

I hope somebody can help me understand whats happening. Last three days right before the rewards are payed out they drop to zero. It was'nt much te begin with and I understand 0.01 to 0.03 is very close to zero so it's not a big fall. But I have to admit it is a bit discouraging.

I know Bitcoin dropped again (I lost 19% today). Is this drop related to the drop in the rewards? If so will be the rewards able to climb and be payed out at a later moment?

I also understand the number you see through the days is estimated and can change. Is this because steem has a fixed pay out per day fo all the rewards and mine are just so low I didnt earn a part?

I know I should be happy with what I get and I am. But seeing it drop three days in a row feels a bit discouraging and I think this is mostly because I dont understand why this is happening.

It has something to do with several things. As far as I know, as I'm also new. But at least with the following aspects:

  • Author rewards make up a percentage of the total. (So what is on the bottom of the page, is only a part of what the author makes.
  • The rest of the upvote goes to curation - in short, the sooner you upvote someone, the higher your percentage of what that post makes. And also the higher your upvote, the higher your curation reward is.
  • Some $ means steemdollar, others mean USdollar. This I find very confusing. And I don't know why or how or when. But it might also have to do with this.

I saw this happen on posts that I've made that didn't generate a lot of money. I figured that the post must make a certain amount for it to translate to a reward. Looking at the conversion system that it takes once the payout process occurs, I don't think a small amount (1-3 cents) would convert to much. This is why I thought I wasn't getting anything in return for post that only earned a few cents or less.

Thank you, I think something like that is happening. It makes me a bit sad because that means my 0.01 upvote on the comments will probably give the commenters nothing. It is however, a good incentive to try to grow.

I looked back at my blogs and see the lowest that's made it into a reward is 0.03 cents. So maybe that's the lowest possible.

I looked back too and saw that the lowest I've been given is 0.03, so that must be right. I wondered the same since my upvotes are only 0.01 also. I was hoping that it all gets put together (the comments with the total upvotes on the post). I wonder that too. That's why a part of me wonders if it is really worth keeping up with my voting power since my votes aren't worth much. It can be a little frustrating.

I have an idea! We are going to a little experiment. I give you an upvote for this comment at my full power (it is 100% now). If you remember, in seven days you come back and tell me if you got the 0.01 cent. Then we both know.

Well, our experiment is done. I didn't get a reward and I see that the upvote I gave you at 100% displays zero. It is sad to conclude that our votes didn't make other people rich. Thankfully it also displays appreciation. I am wondering if there is still an incentive to be economical with my votes. What do you think?
