It is how much you are keeping for yourself, or paying out on each upvote. If you guys join the #MinnowSupportTeam there are people there willing to help and answer questions as you learn the ropes on Steemit :) Look on @aggroed 's page, he is the Mayor of the minnow pond and has most of the post you need to get involved on his page...
It is good to stay at 50/50 at first though ;)
Also...uncheck that "upvote post" box...it's not cool to upvote your own posts
