Goddess on the Hill
Goddess on the hill
Where the city you see all around
From stone walls
To brightly colored temples
And all the people going about their daily lives
Goddess of the Acropolis
Whose wisdom shines bright
Teaching humanity of Democracy
Should they wish to learn
Of the ways of the free and the brave
Goddess of the Armory
Whose spear points steadily
And shield reflects the enemy’s fear back at them
For you are protector
And your divinity will never be denied
Goddess of the golden helm
Which bears upon it the emblems of your power
And the faith of your followers
Who do battle at your behest
Protected by their faith, their courage, and love of you
Goddess of the virgin’s strength
Who you defend with your very hand
Against the enemy that would defile it
For the city is your body
And her people your very blood
Goddess of Athens
Inspirer of philosophers and teachers of old
Matron of civilization
Defender of the rights of the people
To govern their very lives and share in the bounty of the whole
Goddess Athena
Divine daughter of the sky
And of well abiding good counsel
We salute you and venerate you
Never forgotten, never afraid, never any less than divine
