Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 15:5-8

Abram, later to be called Abraham, is key to history and understanding. What we read about this man gives us so much of the foundation we rely on to understand the rest of the Tanakh.

We see three things happening in these verses. We see the promise to make his offspring as numerous as the stars. Then we see that Abram believed the Creator and it was counted to him as righteousness, or in other words, he obtained a state of righteousness based on the simple act of believing his God. Third, we see righteous Abram asking the Creator how he is to know that it will happen.

Basically, he is asking for a covenant and we will see how those are done by our Creator in next week's reading.
