The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis #11

in #hebrew6 years ago (edited)

Welcome back to my DTube Hebrew reading & language series.

The full study is now on line covering the Alef-Beyt here in my blog. This is a beginners program to teach letters, vowels, and reading. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced. The confusion is obvious in the hundreds of interpretations globally. In modern Hebrew, only children need a niqqud or vowel marking for each letter. Old manuscripts also usually have vowels marked.

This week I had guests and spent the day before sunset creating a meal including home made challah, fish, and vegetables served with wine. I truly relaxed during shabbat.

This week's reading is from Genesis 1:22-23

We are in the fourth day as God blesses the creatures in the waters and the birds telling them to multiply and fill the earth.

There is a plan, and there is an end in that plan. He said, "Fill the the waters and in the seas and let the birds multiply on the earth." I see no problem with that continuing until the end.

Them and You

In this reading we see the direct object, or the receiver of the action (the blessing), "and he blessed --them..." (oh-tam). When the direct object is a represented by a pronoun, you see a long dash indicating the object of the verb.

Normally the you and they as the subject are part of each word that each are doing, which is represented by the ending "vav" marked with a dot (shoorook) to the left. In this passage...

  • be fuitful - p'roo
  • and multiply - oor'voo
  • and fill - oo-mee-l'oo

These are commands but you will see that a vav+shoorook at the end of a word can be you, your, they or their as interpreted in English. The vav is also "and" at the beginning in these cases.

I am experimenting with trying to produce written Hebrew using a stylus, but it's not the same. At some point, I may have writing practice. What do you think?

If you have been with me from the beginning, you should be able to read on your own, maybe with some mistakes. But you can start practicing and building vocabulary. I am reading a little faster and pointing less each week. I hope you are too.

This looks difficult for me at first, but with your gentle way of teaching sir @hebrew, I think am getting to know it gradually and now I'm having full interest. You have been a wonderful teacher sir and a great motivator.

You have tried to give us knowledge of a specific Hebrew about the subject above. I think Hebrew is a very good language, only ordinary people do not know about this language, so everyone does not know any value of this language.

I am very happy to say to you that you have considered each and every one of the above material very accurately and you have presented the appropriate vinyl topics in Hebrew. I think that if we give some labor in this language we will be able to achieve this very good knowledge.

Excelente lección muy interesante aprender este idioma aunque es un poco complicado para mi, pero hay un dicho que dice que el que persevera vence, siempre he tenido la curiosidad de este tipo de idiomas y escritura, pero poco a poco iré aprendiendo,Gracias por la enseñanza que nos da a esta maravillosa plataforma.

A very interesting lesson, and this baked bread, charity comes from him. Thank you for the hard work for us.

@hebrew sir i'm new here, hopefully i will get good response from you.
now i can learn @hebrew easily with your guidance.

upvoted and resteemed.

Thank you for the lesson I'm waiting for it every Saturday. It's very interesting to learn the history of your language.

Shabbat Shalom. Another very good Hebrew Lesson.

excellent @hebrew. I loved your previous post, "creatures among others". but this publication today is great, every time I learn these interesting topics, another thing, the bread looks delicious, thank you for not stopping teaching us always.

Learning languages is a combination of reading, speaking, listening, understanding and vocabulary.

Agree! The best way to learn Hebrew language is to actually spend time among people speaking Hebrew. That’s the way I learned my second language. Also read, watch tv... And the most important is the motivation and willingness to learn. One thing that caught my eye and I’m curious how do you call on materialistic things if you only use she or he instead of it? I also noticed no word for word translation in many languages. I guess that’s what makes it the most difficult in language learning. Great post though!

You do the same as in Spanish or other languages with gender.

"Una abeja vino a investigar lo que estaba comiendo y ella me picó."

Saying, 'ella' is the word "it" but a feminine thing that bit me. The same is seen in the Tanakh we use.

and it was evening...

God's plan for us to multiply was perfect, if only man had not sinned.

It's nice to see and read your teachings sir.
Happy Sunday in advance... And if i might say, that is a very delicious looking bread.

"HE BLESSED THEM"

according to the chapter you taught and mentioned above, God blessed all that he created, he said be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. God blessings are rich and it adds no sorrow, whatever he says in his word must come to pass.

Those blessings he blessed those creatures of the air and sea is still today very much active and we can testify to that. Thank you @hebrew for another wonderful word of God, you have really explained those words to everyone's understanding. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it and may God continue to bless you. Happy Sunday to you.
