What is depression?

Mainly forty years is considered to be the age of onset of depression, but it can happen at every age. W.H.O. According to (WHO) 1 in every 6 women and 1 in 8 men (one) is suffering from depression.

Suicide - Eight lakh (800000) people in the world commit suicide every year, according to data from W.H.O. 1, 35, 000 (17%) of these are our Indians. The suicide ratio has now gone up to 10.9 for every 100,000 persons in 2016, from 7.9 earlier. Every 40 seconds one person becomes a victim of suicide and every 3 seconds one person attempts to die. These data are globally known as W.H.O. (World Health Organization).

According to the cities, depression is seen more among the people living in the village or countryside. According to the uneducated, there is an excess among the educated. It is equal in quantity to the poor and the rich.

Symptoms of Depression-

Mood- Anxiety, apathy, dissatisfaction, emptiness, guilt, despair, mood swings, nervousness, or pleasure-giving actions, not even feeling of happiness. In depression, a person is distressed, either sad or depleted of his energy. In a situation that affects his mental level, a person feels very stressed and relieved.

His mind starts to become skeptical towards him, due to which his work capacity is affected, this leads him to more depression, in this state the person's ability to think well and bad ends and he acts disgusting. For example, suicide causes damage to oneself by performing hand sores, hanging etc. He becomes unable to recognize his own power and is always in a state of helplessness. He is always frustrated and does not like anyone around him. He feels lonely. No matter what is said in a joke, it gets pierced like an arrow, connects everything with itself and suspects everyone. He always experiences fatigue and restlessness.

  2. Cognitive- Lack of concentration, slow movement in every task, thoughts of suicide, missing something or forgetting common things are the main. Suddenly remembering some old things and becoming happy. Most depression patients later suffer from amnesia or Alzheimer. He meditates and finds himself unable to do any work.

  3. Intoxication- Some people start getting intoxicated that they should always stay away from reality because they do not have the power to accept it. We can say that they become timid. They do not have the ability to tolerate the ups and downs of life. Caffeine (coffee), tea, junk food etc. also have the wrong effect. Cigarettes (smoking) or tobacco consumption etc. also have the wrong effect.

  4. Special physical characteristics- Excess of sleep and appetite. Carbohydrate craving (i.e a strong desire to eat junk food like pizzas, pastries, burgers, etc.)

Types of depression-

  7. Anaclictic depression- Found in a newborn baby, in which the child is separated from its mother for any reason. Unable to find mother's love, the child becomes a victim of depression.

  8. Atypical depression- It is found in young people. Carbohydrate craving is also found in these patients.

  9. Seasonal affective disorder- It occurs according to the season. It usually starts in spring or winter and ends in summer.

The treatment :- Luckily depression is prevented, it is not incurable. If any person around you suffers from 2-3 symptoms or more, then take them to the doctor immediately. If a person is unhappy or depressed for more than 2 weeks and is not taking food properly then he / she may suffer from depression. He should seek the advice of a doctor. Taking medicines and psychotherapy together are more effective.
