Shhhh .... from the secret bachelor files: World's best kept secret, simple, easy organic tomato sauce recipe - bonus colorchallenge Monday Red :)

in #health7 years ago

No, this recipe does not involve any blow torches or other wildly innovative known bachelor techniques. I can not really say though that no tomatoes were harmed in the making of this post. Some were very seriously affected - but only in the most delicious way. This post does involve graphic scenes with tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, a knife, a core cutter and a pan – the best pan in the world.

A few of the pics in this post also qualify for today’s Color Challenge – Monday Red.

If you have gotten this far in clicking through to this post and reading it, you are probably into healthy eating and recipes. Or, just really extremely bored! In either case, I hope you find this entertaining and informative.

If you are into healthy eating you probably know a lot about tomatoes and probably not anything much new I can tell you. I can reinforce what you already know - tomatoes are full of impressive amounts of vitamins and minerals. (Just google on the web if you really want to know all of them). The benefits of tomatoes, especially organic ones which are more nutritious than their non-organic siblings are equally impressive – they reduce cholesterol, help counter negative impacts of smoking, improve vision, help in digestion, lower hypertension, manage diabetes, promote healthy skin, prevent gallstones and help prevent urinary tract infections. I am surprised they do not also cure baldness, end world war tensions, and stave off alien invasions. Maybe they do … hmmm...

Tomatoes have become a bit more famous since people have started writing about lycopene which is the antioxidant found in tomatoes. Lycopene is highly effective in eliminating pesky free radicals. Free radicals cause cancer. In order to benefit from this benefit though apparently requires eating a massive amount of tomatoes. Around fifteen tomatoes a day according to the research I have seen. (My latest research was watching this thanks to a tip from a friend:

)

Fifteen tomatoes a day is a lot. I don’t think they were talking about small cherry sized tomatoes. The good news is that for some odd reason, heating and cooking tomatoes increases the impact of the lycopene. So, if you cook five to seven tomatoes it is almost as good as eating fifteen. (Hopefully all of your upvotes on this post will be double in power too 😊 )

Here is how I cook my tomatoes.

I start by adding a bit, actually a lot, of freshly chopped garlic into a pan with some olive oil. I turn the heat on low, stirring occasionally with a wooden spatula (I don’t want to scrape my pan with a metal spoon and ideally best not to use plastic or rubber). Garlic is also awesome for you – I will have to check out if there is any benefit to heated garlic in tomato sauce as well as the olive oil and maybe do another post on that.

Simmering garlic

While the garlic is simmering, I wash some fresh organic tomatoes and using this amazing tool – the core cutter – or whatever you call it, I remove the core part. (This is also great for apples if you want to remove the apple core to cut up apples and make apple tart).

The tomatoes are then sliced up and put into the simmering pan. I then leave on low heat and just stir occasionally.

Every few minutes or so just keep checking on the pan.

Almost done ... tastes so good on fresh pasta...

The pan that I use is a souvenir that I bought during a trip to Düsseldorf in Germany. It is supposed to be the best pan in the world and also environmentally very friendly.

This is a picture of my pan handle.

This is a video from the company that produces it … I actually can’t understand German too well, but they seem to be very emphatic about it.

All pictures posted in this are my own photos that I have taken myself with an iPhone 6. I was preparing this batch of tomatoes sauce while writing this post. The Youtube videos are not my own work and are the work of the authors mentioned as you watch (if you watch) the clips. I am a bachelor ... not quite starving as you can see, but greatly appreciated if you can upvote and resteem this post if indeed you appreciated it yourself. Thank you.

That looks delicious! All natural too, I like how there are only simple ingredients and nothing added - some people add sugar to their sauce.

Thanks for reading and the comment @thehutchreport!
