Healthy Spices

Hello lovely steemians, I trust that you're all in perfect health, and if not,I bring you good news of great tidings 😁💌🛍.
I'm writing on two of the best herbs/spices that is a necessity for healthy living. 💪👌
I will start off by explaining some terms;

Herbs are plants whose parts; stem, leaves and roots have medicinal value and also can serve as spices.

Herbs are mostly used in;
√food to add flavor and improve taste,
√In drug production as an active ingredient or,
√As a drug on its own
For instance aloe vera can be used to cure osteoarthritis and onion is very essential in improving eyesight.

I think we all underestimate the usefulness of herbs in our lives.

Herbs are very important, the drugs we take are mostly made with herbs, so is our skin care products, the cream we rub, the soap we use to bath. These are mostly made up of herbs, in fact I love to refer to herbs as God's gift to man.
Now to my favorite herbs; garlic and ginger which also serve as spices.

Ways of using it and benefits derived from proper usage
I said proper because too much or too little consumption can pose a major problem. Garlic and ginger are root vegetables that belong to family of bulbs and rhizomes respectively.

Garlic is an annual crop with long and slender leaves that can be planted in any soil type but will thrive more in sandy soil and ginger just like garlic is an annual crop with its rhizome growing beneath the earth surface

Uses/Benefits/Side effects
First of all, it is worthy to note that ginger and garlic belong to a class of savory spices that can be added to any food, ranging from seasoning of meat, rice, porridge etc, and sometimes garlic is used in place of onion. Aside from serving as spices, ginger and garlic is known for its many health benefits.

√Ginger aids weight loss
Being overweight can increase one's chance of heart diseases.

√it regulates the sugar level
Proper consumption of ginger helps diabetic patient to manage their health by reducing the level of sugar in the blood and regulating insulin. For people suffering from chronic motion sickness, on the spot intake of ginger can prevent its occurrence and save the day.

√acts as a pain relief
For work-out addicts, ginger can serve as a pain relief mostly for pains felt in the muscle, asthmatic patient can manage themselves health wise by taking ginger, people with allergies can take ginger as it is very helpful, it cures constipation and other stomach upset by aiding proper digestion.


However little or nothing can be achieved if ginger is not consumed in the right dose. Research has shown that to achieve effective result, not more than 4 grams of ginger should be consumed in a day although it can be less depending on expected result because overdose can lead to heart burn and stomach discomfort.

Garlic has been in existence for several years and has always served as home remedy to several ailments.
√it lessens the accumulation of gas
In the alimentary canal, garlic aids in reducing gas accumulation an ailment commonly known as flatulence. It speeds up blood clotting which aids fast healing of wounds.
√it is very useful in the treatment of respiratory diseases
Respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma etc. can be treated by proper consumption of garlic. Garlic tea made from soaking of garlic in hot water can be used to cure respiratory infections like flu and cough.

√regulates the heart
If you are seeking to regulate or stabilize the functioning of your heart or blood system, then garlic is very vital in the sense that it lowers high blood pressure thereby reducing the chances of hypertension and regulates high level cholesterol, which minimizes the risk of heart disease.
√It also prevents brain diseases
Due to its anti-oxidative contents, brain diseases such as dementia can be prevented


Nevertheless, improper use of garlic can cause; mouth and body odor, heart burns, stomach upset and flatulence. As a result doctors have advised that 4 grams which is equivalent to one or two cloves of garlic should be taken in a day.
The usefulness of garlic and ginger can’t be overemphasized. These spices shouldn’t be lacking in anyone’s kitchen, >the most fascinating thing about these spices is that it can either be consumed raw, or used in cooking, whichever way one decides to consume his/her ginger and garlic, there’s still much to be gained from its consumption.

However, humans have different taste preferences, while some (like my sister) can’t stand the raw taste of these spices, I will happily munch on it with reckless abandon.
I use garlic and ginger religiously and I can attest to its many wonders, not just its savory taste in food, but also its use in the prevention/cure of several ailments,

The health benefits of ginger are quite numerous but still I can't afford to consume it because I can't stand its smell. Carefully laid out points. I will revisit this post at dusk to show some love.
