CONSTIPATION : Water Shortage in The Digestive System
The work of the digestive system is to assimilate essential nutrients while trying to prevent the engulfing of abnormal substances.
Digestion starts immediately food enters the mouth. As mastication(chewing) of food starts, the salivary gland secrets some enzymes and also moisten the food to aid swallowing.
When food is swallowed, the stomach secretes gastric juices which further breaks down the food .
The broken down food passes into the small intestine where digestive enzymes from the pancreas and liver will act on it to make it absorbable by the intestinal wall.
The intestinal wall absorb proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals as they proportionally pass along the small intestine into the blood stream straight to the liver for further processing. The left over substances (water, electrolytes and others) are absorbed back into the body in the large intestine.
CONSTIPATION is a state of the bowel in which the evacuation are infrequent and difficult or the intestine becomes filled with hardened faeces.
Now, when food is eaten and broken down in the stomach and gastrointestinal tract.
Water aids in this process before the food is broken down to usable substances and also before it enters the blood circulation and transferred to the liver for further processing.
A good quantity of water is actually needed for this process to proceed smoothly.
When a body is properly hydrated the refuse to be ejest pass out gradually without raising any complication because of adequate water supply of water which act as a lubricant to carry the refuse through the large intestine for elimination.
When the body suffers chronic dehydration the movement of faeces slows down and the faeces gets compacted. The process of elimination through the rectum becomes difficult and painful.
Some faeces will back up on the walls of the large intestine forming a breeding ground for endoparasites.
A body in this state is diagnosed of CONSTIPATION.
Complications resulting from this condition include;
hemorrhoid
appendicitis
Cancer of the colon, etc.
The best medication to curb this condition is to take adequate water.
People adamantly suffers from this condition because of ignorance of the importance of drinking good quantities of water regularly.
