I just got home from a memorial service in Knightsbridge, London, held for a recovering alcoholic. He had forty years of sobriety under his belt before succumbing to cancer.
Possibly one of the best natured and friendly guys I think I have ever met, a real hero.
There were over 200 people at the service and I was glad to be among them to pay my respects. Maybe one day I will be like him, outgoing, popular, always giving of himself and thinking of others.
Maybe I will go out and drink or take drugs tomorrow. Who knows? Doubt it.
He will stay in my memory and that of others for a long time.
