Why Some of Us Get Foodborne Illness During Easter and How to Avoid It

in #health7 years ago (edited)

The holidays are supposed to be joyous times where family and friends meet, eat and talk, laugh and eat, eat and drink, and eat some more. The holidays however have their share of foodborne illness cases because of all the eating and because we let our guards down during the holidays.

Easter is no exception and with all the eggs involved during Easter, we decided to make an infographic with some guidelines on how to safely handle these bad boys.

According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention: "CDC estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases."

Eggs in particular may carry the vicious Salmonella bacteria. According to MedicineNet: "Salmonella enteritidis is a bacterium that can live on either the outside or inside of eggs and cause foodborne illness. Symptoms include cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, chills, fever and possibly headache within 12 to 72 hours after eating."

So click through to enjoy the infographic and share it with others so they can stay safe too:
