Best Low Carb snacks
There are many benefits to low-carb diets including:
-Decrease risk of cardiovascular disease
-Improvement of blood markers including (Lower Tgs, Higher HDL and lower CRP)
-Decreased inflammation
-Visceral fat loss
-Reduction in blood pressure
-Improved cognitive finction
I know that it can be difficult to find snacks that are low carb friendly so below is a list of my favorite healthy low carb snacks.
1. Macadamia nuts: 5 net grams of carbs per 100 grams and the healthiest of all the nuts.
2. Coconut: You can eat coconut raw or roasted. Both healthy choices with only 6g carbs per 100g.
3. Raw Celery: 1g of net carbs per 100g. Add a high fat healthy home made dip to help with the absorption of the fat soluble nutrients,
4. Walnuts/Pecans/Almonds: These are all the second choice of nuts. They are much cheaper than Macadamia but still have low amounts of carbs.
5. Sunflower seeds:These are a bit higher in carbs 9g of carbs/100g. But, if you buy them in a shell you will eat much less.
6. Healthy Cheese: Made with non pasteurized milk, no preservatives, color or other chemicals. Some cheese is pro-inflammatory, but in moderation makes for a great snack.
7. Boiled eggs: Best source of protein, with only 1.1g of net carbs per 100g.
**Net carbs on a low carb diet are calculated as total carbs-fiber as we are looking at insulin spiking carbs only.
We snack on all of these. Well all but the eggs, I would call them a staple. ;)
Do you feel that people are changing and are more concerned how they fuel their body?
I noticed an increase in the number of people concerned about their eating habits and excercise.
Have you noticed in your local super market how labels are changing? Healthy and powerful foods are being displayed in front of unhealthy foods.
Certainly there's so much more awareness for healthy food choices. Especially the rising concern with excess sugar consumption and toxic additives. At least that's the trend in North America!
Are you aware of the ketogenic diet and fasting protocols used by elite athletes recently?

I tend to crave salty and crisp when it comes to snacking. I saw a recipe for cheese crisps that hits the spot.
Cut thinly sliced cheese into quarters and bake at 250 Fahrenheit for 35 minutes (or until crisp - the thicker the cheese the longer it takes).
Thanks for the tips.
