The Harms of Plastic Bottles

Plastic water bottles are produced from plastic and commonly used in storing liquids such as drinks, water and other beverages. They are generally used because of the ease in disposing them and also, because it's cheap to produce even though it could be considered little of a benefit compared to the general impact it has on our health and immediate environment.

They are widely used among people ranging from children who take them to school, business persons who take them to work, just to mention a few. They also come in various designs and colors making them attractive and appear as a perfect way of promoting an increase in water consumption among people.

But are they really safe to drink out from?

Research which commenced in 1998 and was later published in 2003 helped discover that most of these bottles usually leaked chemicals used in producing them into the fluids they held leaving them with the potential of causing more harm than good. The bottles contained a chemical known as Bisphenol A also called BPA which had the ability to alter the distribution of hormones, causes breast and uterine cancer, lower testosterone levels thereby leading to low sperm count and also affect the development of children.

Asides these health implication, there also lies the environmental effect and the accumulated cost disadvantage from it's continued use.
