WHY DO WE NEED TO STUDY STATISTICS?
Anyone who reads a newspaper or magazine, who listens to the radio or watches television, who browses the internet or make use of the social media (Facebook, Twitter, Whats-app, e.t.c), who looks at billboards, or talk to friends and neighbors-in short, everybody is exposed to statistics.

'' The inflation rate increased from 9.6% in July to 11.4% August'', The average age of players in the English premiership is 24 while that of Italian is 28'', ''3 out of every 10 Africans are Nigerians''.
These are some of the numerous statistical facts we hear or read of on a daily basis. Thus, if we are to live in the present world, we must work out a way of dealing with the load of statistical sense and nonsense which is dumped daily in our laps. The only way to achieve the aim is for us to learn a little bit about statistical analysis about how we think statistically and try to make reasonable judgments in handling the statistics we encounter.

This is precisely the main reason why statistics has been entrenched in the course curricula of many of many disciplines. To introduce students and we steemians to the nature and uses of statistics, and to develop their ability to collect, compile and present statistical data.

Knowledge of statistics would enable students think better in this world where statistical arguments are rife.
