I Learned Something New Today: Human Flesh Edition

in #health7 years ago (edited)

It's been a while since I shared some fun facts instead of wallowing in fictional nostalgia, so I figured today would be that day. Prepare yourself for an incidental dose of useless knowledge.

For a while I'd noticed that men's skin just seemed different. I couldn't put my finger on it. I figured maybe it had to do with physical structure or muscle so I would typically *cough* lose my train of thought.

In comparison it seems like men are infatuated with the idea of female skin. I've been told several times that I was incredibly soft, which would make me cringe with an uncomfortable, "This is the natural texture of skin I was born with, thanks."

Today this curiosity peaked and I thought to ask Google, "Do men have thicker skin?" Not in a metaphorical sense, but in a literal sense. Google knew exactly what I meant, and yes, men do literally have thicker skin. About 25% thicker due to hormones like testosterone.

Men's skin also ages gradually, while women's skin texture stays approximately the same till menopause.

I had also noticed that men seem to be generally warmer and comfortable keeping the AC at cooler temperatures. This means that I wake up feeling like an Incan ice mummy frozen in the Andes. There actually is some truth to this concept. Men sweat more than twice as much as women.

What should you do with this knowledge? I'm not sure. Try to find a middle ground for the AC temperature. Guys, buy your lady a fancy cardigan. Ladies, get him a cool gel pillow that doesn't hold heat. Maybe an ice pack. Hose him down in the back yard with ice cold water. No one likes getting sweated on.
