Today I'll be talking about a deadly virus that has killed millions of people within the past few years.
HIV is a STD (sexually transmitted disease), it isn't only transmitted through sex, there are other ways too. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus
While
AIDS is the final stage of the infection (HIV), it stands for ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME. As the name implies, it is not a virus; it is symptoms and illness that occurs when you are infected with the virus (HIV).
The question now is
WHAT IS HIV?
HIV is a virus that attacks and disable the immune system. The immune system is said to be the body's natural defense against harmful substance.
HOW IT WORKS
- When infected with HIV it gradually breaks down and destroy the immune system, leaving the body without defense. That means without treatment it is difficult or almost impossible to fight infection and diseases.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NOT ON MEDICATIONS
- when the virus is left untreated it may take 9-15years for it to shut down the body's immune system completely. The activeness of the virus differs according to age and gene.
WHAT IS AIDS?
Unlike HIV, AIDS is not a virus; but the after effect of HIV. It is symptoms that occurs as a result of HIV.
HOW IT WORKS
- A person is said to have AIDS when the virus (HIV) has finally shut down the immune system. If not treated at this stage, it's just a matter of time before the burial ceremony.
CARRIERS OF THE VIRUS
Once infect the virus will be attached to the blood, semen, vaginal, anal fluids, and breast milk.
CURE
There is no cure presently for the virus ; with the right treatment and emotional support Victims can live long and healthy.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Avoid sharing of sharp objects
Abstain from oral sex
Use a male or female condom while having sex; it don't just prevent HIV, it also prevents other STD

CONCLUSION
HIV and AIDS is very real, it isn't a joke or a concept used to scare people from having sex. Stay away from unprotected sex, always use condom.

This is a very good reminder article about a very important health issue, @raymondbruce. It is good to be reminded of the facts about HIV and AIDS. Not only is it good to know what can be done to prevent getting the virus, but it is also good to know that it is safe to give care and support to those who are infected if the proper safeguards are employed.
