Mamma Chia! Super Foods for Superpowers!
Introducing a collection of nutritional poems, written under the pen name Laura-Lee, which is my christian name.
The aim is to introduce the audience to the powers of superfoods in a fun, educational and creative method!
First in the series, is an ode to mother earth through a tribute to Chia seeds!
May it bring smiles to your day and uplift you, just as the essence of chia uplifts moods.
Delicate yet powerful Chia
Stores her magic in the seeds,
Of tiny purple flowers
Grown in Peruvian fields.
A magical ‘Brain Boosting’ Goddess,
Enchantments she weaves
Around the heart she restores
Happiness in vitality.
Turning back the clocks of aging,
Chia plays an awesome game,
By aiding in digestion
She combats inflammation and weight gain.
A dieters dream is she,
And diabetics love her vibe,
She brings a surge of energy
And immunity to her tribe!
Super strength to the Mayan Warrior
in her support of bone and tissue,
With soaring levels of calcium and protein
Vegans won’t have vigor issues.
Muscles and blood are nourished
By her Iron and Manganase,
And detoxing through the high fibre
Is a secret of ancient ways.
To invite her into your life,
Would do the world of good to your system.
Antioxidants and Omega 3’s
Are something your brain would be interested in.
And she would deal forth her mystical magic,
Her blends compacted in seeded glitter,
So many uses for her party currency -
She’s the ‘Mother of Puddings’ on Twitter!
Three tablespoons of Chia in almond milk,
(250ml’s would do fine)
Stir it around and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning- you’ll find a gold mine!
Of fluffy grains, like jelly
That swell up to ten times its original size!
Happy your waist and your belly
From this powerhouse of vitamin jive.
Drizzle some honey or add fruit,
like berries for Low GI,
And you’ve just introduced dessert for breakfast,
Guilt free in your quest, you can fly!
No more “Mamma, I feel so low”
No more “Mamma, where do I go?”
She’ll say, “Little bird, what do you know?! ”
“Mamma Chia! You reap what you sow!”
Try sprinkle chia on soups and in curries,
On sourdough bread that’s got some Avo on top,
Or add a tablespoon or two to a smoothie
Or make a Chia Fresco on days when it’s hot.
Its super simple: Just add a teaspoon of seeds
To a glass of water, with squeezed lemon juice.
It’s a great drink for an athlete or runner
Or when you need energy spruced.
And if you want to start the day buzzing,
A bowl of gluten free oats is the bomb,
with Chia, nut butter and hemp seeds
You’ll go to infinity and beyond!
