5 Reasons Why Your New Exercising Habits Are Failing
There's this joy you get when you learn something new - especially when that thing will be highly beneficial to you. Things like learning a new exercise, letting go of your bad habits, eating healthy and many more come with a certain kind of adrenaline for the first few days.
Let's talk about exercises; the first few days are usually like "aarrggh, I need to get that body, I need to stay fit, with well toned skin... I'm going to do a million sit-ups and a billion push-up today... this feels so good..."
After a few days, you begin to get fed up and gradually go back to your old habits. If you do this often, trust me, you're not alone, I'm very guilty of that too. This happens to a lot of people, so I have written few points that are responsible for this.
Search for a lifestyle, not outcome.
Why do you want to exercise? Is it because you swiftly want a flat tummy? Want 6 packs? Or because you want to have a healthy lifestyle? These are different reasons. If you are exercising just because you want outcomes, then you might get disappointed. You begin to get discouraged after certain weeks when you still don't have that flat tummy or 6 packs. Learn to cultivate the habit of exercising, because it is healthy, not because you're waiting for the outcome.
Procrastination.
You know you're meant to exercise in the morning, or during a particular time of the day, but you are too lazy to get up. Procrastination will ruin the whole idea of exercising.
Inconsistency.
Isn't it funny that you only exercise once in 2 weeks? Yea, I'm also guilty. If you want to maintain the habit of exercising (and wait long enough to enjoy its benefits) then you have to be consistent. This doesn't mean you have to do it every second or even every day. It only means that if you have designated particular days or time for it, you have to stick with them and be consistent.
Not taking baby steps.
Many of us want to have that banging body and we're not being realistic about it. To tell you the truth, doing 100 push ups and 200 sit ups will not get you that body you want in a week. You have to continuously and religiously work towards it. Don't expect fast results - good things don't come in a rush.
Not marking your progress.
Just like I'm encouraging you to take baby steps, I'm also encouraging you to mark your progress. Check how far you've come and how well you've done. This will encourage you to keep the habit of exercising.
Doing it alone.
I have noticed that it is more encouraging to exercise with a group of people, than to do it alone. Perhaps that is one major reason why people go to the gym. It is soothing when you have other people encouraging you to keep going, or introducing new exercises to you.
In general, I'm sure I don't have to convince you that exercising is very important if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle - that's common knowledge. But if you need someone to encourage you, I'm surely here for that. That's because I need encouragement too. Lol. So don't give up, get going and live healthy!!
