Unusual healthy street food!
Here's an interesting healthy street food I discovered today!
Maerua oblongifolia called Bhoochakra gadda in Telugu is a tuber known for its various medicinal uses. It is known to be traditionally used in the treatment of fever, diabetes, abdominal colic, urinary calculi, skin diseases, arthritis, convulsions and epilepsy. It also aids in blood purification.
They grow in India, Pakistan, Africa and Saudi Arabia. This tuber (the one in the post) came from Bababudangiri hills, Chikmagalur.
It is skillfully cut into unbelievably thin slices and served as a delicate three layered sandwich with lemon juice and sugar in between!
The taste of the tuber itself resembles that of tender coconut pulp. It is slightly juicy and crunchy in texture. The sandwich tastes a lot like tender coconut sherbet.
