Axillary abscess drainage.

in #health7 years ago

Hello steemians, today we celebrated 1 year since I joined this great platform.

So I want to share the following video, which is the drainage of an axillary abscess.

But what is an abscess?

According to the Royal Spanish Academy, it is defined as: the "accumulation of pus in organic tissues"

And is that basically, it is the circumscribed elevation of the skin, which contains purulent exudate; May have white, yellow, or greenish-yellow color. The process can be born in a hair follicle or independently. They can have different volume and shape. They are usually caused by autochthonous bacteria on the affected skin. They may appear in the trunk, limbs, armpits, head and neck, but we can also find them in the perineal region, ie inguinal, vaginal, gluteal and perirectal; The most frequent microorganisms are Staphylococcus Aureus and Streptococcus.

The signs and symptoms are pain and fluctuating or firm edema very painful. It may be accompanied by local cellulitis, lymphangitis, regional lymphadenopathy, fever and leococitosis.

The diagnosis is usually clinical, with a simple physical inspection.

The abscess may spontaneously drain or require surgical treatment, which is a small incision for drainage.

Description of the video:

  • Previous sepsis and antisepsis of the axillary region with iodopovidone 10%
  • A small incision is made on the abscess
  • It is necessary to press on it, to facilitate the extraction of all the purulent material
  • Once all of it has been removed, the axillary region is cleaned and a sterile gauze is covered
