Siwak or miswak (Arabic: سواك) is a branch or root of
the Salvadora persica tree used to clean teeth, gums and mouth. Therefore, any branches or roots of any tree may be used to coat if it meets the requirements, ie soft, so hardwood stems or roots should not be used for the toes because it can damage the gums and tooth enamel; can clean and fibrous and wet, so that roots or stems that there is no fiber can not be used to bersiwak; the fiber does not fall when used to have a tooth so it can contaminate the mouth

The Prophet advocating his followers to use siwak every time to establish a five-day prayer. The Prophet also said,
"Siwak can cleanse the mouth and reach the pleasure of God" (HR An-Nasai)

Literally, siwak means a tool for cleaning the mouth. Siwak is a kind of root or branch of Arak tree. Arak trees include creeping plants, have many roots and twigs, leafy green, slightly yellow, rarely flowering or fruiting.

Recent research proves that the roots and twigs of Arak contain several chemical elements that are able to protect teeth from damage caused by dirt and germs, and protect it from gingivitis. In addition, the roots and twigs Arak has other chemical elements such as sweet pepper oil that has a strong smell. Because of its hot, roots or branches Arak able to repel germs that lodged in the mouth.
Some other elements such as the fragrance they contain, the taste of gummy sugar, minerals, a variety of plant fibers that contain carbon sodium, turned out to function as a protective tooth paste.
These scientific facts have not been discovered or proven in times of prophecy or even the next few centuries. Therefore, the hadith about siwak contains scientific miracles, teachings about ethics, and the concept of health and hygiene of the mouth, teeth, and gums of dirt, germs, bacteria, and food remnants that stick to the teeth and oral cavity. If the mouth and teeth are left in a dirty state, of course the person will be susceptible to disease mouth and teeth, and he will be shunned by others because of the bad smell of his mouth.

Another thing that is very astonishing, in addition to
the Prophet's advice. to bersiwak, is that he chose the branch or root of the Arak tree as a favorite siwak tool, while at that time no one knows the substances and compounds contained in the branches or roots of the Arak tree. All this shows how the Prophet is truly the messenger of God who is at all times connected to God and guided by revelation.
Thank you
