Well it seems scientists are finding that this single isotope metal (revered for thousands of years), can help in the modern day fight for good health. Since Gold is a beta emitter (emits electron particles), now being used in some cancer treatments and for treating various other diseases. Gold nanoparticles are also being investigated now as an inject-able treatment for prostate cancer.
In addition Edinburgh University released their results finding gold nanoparticles could increase the effectiveness of drugs used to treat lung cancer cells.
Technology
Science is one of many areas in which Gold is making advancements outside of the investment realm. Besides the great strides it is making in medicine, technological use is on a rapid rise. Some of these uses are solar panels, space technology, bonding wire, LED's and even circuit boards. This is due to it's lifetime qualities and resistance to erosion, high conductivity, chemical stability as well as it's compatibility with many other elements.

So as the use cases in technology increase, there will be less Gold for investment. This bodes well for the price and worth of the "Barbarous Relic" that was only known for its use as Money.
