Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a disease in which cancer cells develop in the tissues of the breast. The mammary gland is composed of several clusters of lobules and lobules connected by thin ducts, like branches of a tree, in these ducts develops the most frequent breast cancer that is ductal cancer, the other type of breast cancer Is lobular carcinoma.

Causes:

There is a family predisposition that is transmitted through the genes (in the chromosomes), being 5% to 10% of all cases of cancer of hereditary transmission. Another factor predisposing to breast cancer is the use of hormonal contraceptives (**).

Diagnosis:

The most effective prevention of breast cancer is early detection and therefore the self-exploration of breasts, periodically, is essential. In addition, from the age of 50, and before if there are predisposing family factors, a scan called mammography should be performed periodically (every 2 years). This scan detects small tumors that may go undetected in self-exploration.

The appearance of a suspicious nodule indicates a biopsy of the tumor, this involves taking a small piece of the nodule and analyzing it under a microscope to determine the presence of cancerous cells. Usually the sample is taken by a needle that is inserted into the breast tissue and by aspiration part of the suspicious tissue is collected.

If the analysis detects cancerous cells, other studies will be done to see the sensitivity of these cells to the female hormones (estrogens and progestogens). According to the sensitivity to these hormones we can draw conclusions about the most correct treatment, since growth hormones will be used differently depending on the response to the female hormones of each cancer, and the probability of recurrence will be different in some cases and in others .

The cure of breast cancer will depend on the stage of extension at the time of diagnosis as well as the general health of the affected person.
