Pollution in general as an unhealthy phenomenon is the undesirable action of man or activities inimical to a healthy environment that is wholesome for human habitation. This unhealthy occurrence could emanate from air, land or sea, or even all of them.

Air space could be polluted with gasseous emission, Smoke etc.

Land on it's own side could witness pollution with both degradeable and biodegradable wastes, flood etc.

Water on the other hand could get polluted through the harmful practises of oil exploration.

In the process, acquatic animals and the health of the inhabitants could be put in serious jeopardy.

An overwhelming pollutant It have observed these days is from industrial concerns particularly Breweries. While the management of breweries request that bottles are returned to the factory after only the liquid contents have been consumed, environmentalists and other stakeholders in our society have refused to ask; What Happens to the Asortment of Corks of these brands if drinks? Your guess is as good as mine.

Over the decades, breweries in Nigeria depended in appointed distributors and consumers through retail outlets scattered in every nook and cranny of the land to dispose of this pollutant. What do we do or expected to do to ensure a safe environment - free of pollution? If these industries could realize that part of their Community Social Responsibility CSR is to recycle the huge number of these corks.

INITIATING A WASTE TO WEALTH
PROJECT

Labour intensive programme like waste to wealth exercise, to a large extent absorbs a huge number of employable youths in the society.

This critical segment of the community will be meaningfully engaged to check mate the upsurge in crime, youth restiveness and other social vices. These materials can also be converted to organic manure for the Agricultural sector.

There has arisen the urgent need to partner the government , NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, FBOs etc to raise awareness on environmental campaigns to rid our towns, cities and communities if filth that pollutes the environment.

Our environment remains our heritage as and nothing should be spared to protect it. There should be collaboration of all to reduce air pollution, open up blocked drainages, donate stickers to motorists, passers by and Media Practitioners as well.

In terms of flooding, each time it rains, more than sixty percent of our towns and cities are flooded.

Most inhabitants of of our various localities are dead in conscience, that both solid and liquid wastes are disposed in a manner similar to lower animals.

Both industrial, commercial and household wastes are emptied into the drainages and gutters. The resultant effect could be imagined with the slightest drop of rains.

With the coming of the wind, sand and dangerous dust particles , mingled with light weight wastes and rise to far heights - as a result of increasing the suspended particles content of the air

Add up this to the leaking sewage, together with foul air coming from other crowded quarters with ramshakle structures and tell me why it is out if place to say that most PEOPLE seen in and around our vicinity are mere moving Corpses.

One should not be surprised with the prevalence of cardio respiratory diseases among the people.

If we continue this way, who knows, a Pandemic, worst than Corona Virus - Covid 19 could hit us.
