Why Loosing Weight Is So Easy and Effortless with Intermittent Fasting! (what you need to know about insulin)

in #health6 years ago

There are doezens of workout programs and diet plans marketed to be the next best thing for weight loss but loosing weight is as simple as reducing the frequency of meals. In this article I am going to break down why intermittent fasting is by far the best and easiest way to melt fat of your body and keep it off for good.

(Feel free to listen to the video above as you read along)

We have all heard of calories in and calories out, it sounds like a simple math problem, if we burn more calories than we take in then we will loose weight but what is missing in this math problem is the variable for metabolism, we all have vastly different basal metabolic rate that varies day to day.

There are some ways you can get a rough idea of how much calories you burn in a day but that amount will always vary from one day to next depending on amount of exercise and how much sleep you get. However, this variable can be accounted for by intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is simply going an extended period of time between meals, and the reason this is the best method for burning fat is because your body will not use stored fat as a source of energy in presence of insulin and whenever any food is consumed insulin is present, even if its a light 50 calorie snack insulin will be released and your body will be kicked out of fat burning mode.

Even with intermittent fasting there seems to be many methods. So to make things as simple as possible I found it easiest to just go 6-8 hous after waking up before consuming food, for most people this could be as simple as skipping breakfast. And, as you become more and more fat adapted you will find it very easy to go even longer than 8 hours after waking up to go without food before hunger kicks in.

One of my favorite arguments for intermittent fasting is to look at food consumption through an evolutionary lens. If you think about how humans involved over hundreds of thousands of years, we were hunters and gatherers for vast majority of our existence, we did not have the luxury of walking down the street to get food or waking 20 feet from the couch to the fridge to find something to shove down our throat. We had to go long periods of time without food, which would be considered being in a fasted state. So our bodies developed this incredible mechanism of storing food as a source of energy called fat that we could tap into when we had to go long periods without food.

Fast forward to present time when we have come to accept eating every four hours as the norm, the body never gets a chance to tap into the fat reserve for energy, as it was intended to. When you are having 3 meals a day and snacking in between meals, the only time your body gets a chance to use fat as a source of energy is during sleep when you typically go 7-8 hours without eating, and if you simply continue to not take in any calories after waking up, you allow your body to continue to use fat as the source of energy.

Now back to the whole calories in and calories out debate, it is absolutely true that if you eat significantly less calories than you burn, then you will loose weight, but in my experience with intermittent fasting for about a year, I eat as much as I want when I break fast, go to sleep completely satisfied, wake up not feeling any sort of hunger what-so-ever and everyday I am enjoy large satisfying meals without putting on any extra fat.

At this point, the only thing for you to do is to take this knowledge and try it for yourself, and see how you feel. From an evolutionary perspective I hope it makes sense to you why going an extended period of time without food makes sense for the body. I will just leave you with the fact that, if this is your first time trying intermittent fasting, know that the first few weeks will suck as your body begins to adapt to using fat as a source of energy, but once you become fully fat adapted and you no longer feel hungry, the first thing in the morning, you will begin to wonder why the f#$k you ever thought it was normal to feel hungry every few hours.

I agree, the best way to lose weight is to go as long as possible without eating, then when you eat don't pig out 😸

I’ve been able to use intermittent fasting, ketogenic eating and a little exercise to supercharge weightloss. I’m also having my doctor track my numbers (glucose, blood pressure, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, testosterone, etc.) ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN IMPROVING in these 47 days! I started at 292 and am now 270 and I now have 50 pounds to go.

I've heard of intermitten fasting before, but no one ever described what it was. Thank you for this very helpful post.

Be careful with this diet.
Stress leads to weight gain. If this diet feels good and is easy for you - it might work for you.
However, if doing this is "stressful" or challenging, dont do it.
Also, it can "feel good" because the body is coping with the pain by releasing Endorphins. This is similar to when runners push past the wall for the Endorphins rush. Runners who consistently do this are actually hurting their body.

Please because with extreme diets. Do your research.

I agree, fasting is a stress on the body similar to any form of exercise. I personally go 6-8 hours after waking up before my first meal so that's about a 16 hour fast everyday on average but for the everyday person who wants to try this I feel like just skipping breakfast and eating lunch at noon (only 4 hours) isn't demanding on the body, and they will start to feel a lot better, and see the fat melt off

From my research and experience with other cultures -
a suggested pattern is eat breakfast and Dinner. Either skip lunch or have snacks throughout the day.

I have also learned that if a person only ate one me - breakfast is the most important because it is replenishing the stores that were used through the night and loading up the body for the day.

Finally, I agree that it is a personal thing. Everyone body is different. There are some universal basics that we can all agree on, but how those basics are applied depend on the person's body, culture, routines, needs, habits and health.

wow, I've been working out to lose weight and I did try this approach and its awesome. Lose 5pounds already. Nice article @infocentral

Every method of loosing weight looks simple in paper but in reality they are very hard and the first step is the hardest.
