Why Coconut Oil?

in #health7 years ago

Over the last few years, coconut oil has become extremely popular and for good reason. While the mainstream dieticians will push the tired old argument that it is high in saturated fats, the truth is that it has been a staple for thousands of years and is a super oil.

It destroys microbes & provides your body with quality fat so important for maintaining good health. 50 per cent of coconut oil is lauric acid, rarely found in nature and coconut oil contains the most lauric acid of any other substance on earth. Lauric acid is converted into monolaurin by the body and monolaurin is a monoglyceride that will destroy lipid-coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, influenza, measles, gram-negative bacteria and protozoa such as guardia lamblia.

Coconut oil is made up of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that are easily digested and readily cross cell membranes. MCFAs are immediately converted by your liver into energy rather than being stored as fat. It is also very gentle on the digestive system and does NOT produce an insulin spike in your bloodstream.

Coconut oil does not go rancid, in fact coconut oil that has been kept at room temperature for over a year and tested for rancidity, has shown no sign of it.

Oil Pulling – this practice dates back thousands of years and involves using the coconut oil like a mouth wash. This not only makes your teeth nice and white, but the main function is to detoxify and “pull out” bacteria, viruses, fungi and other debris. You should do the process for 15 minutes and when done spit the oil out and rinse with clean water. Do not spit it down the sink as coconut oil can become solid and block your drains.

Other benefits include, promoting heart health, supporting proper thyroid function, promoting healthy brain function, strengthening the immune system, supporting a strong metabolism that can support weight loss, maintaining healthy skin.

Use it in the morning after a shower to moisturise your skin. It is incredible and particularly good for dry areas on your skin that may be hard to fix. I used to suffer from dry knuckle joints on my fingers, but once I regularly started to use coconut oil as a skin moisturiser over those areas, the dry skin has completely gone - permanently.

I use it in my cooking, to bake with, spread it on my home baked bread in the place of butter and margarine (which you should never, ever, use), use it for stir fry vege dishes, in my porridge - you name it I use it!!!

The best coconut oil to use is organic, extra virgin and once you incorporate it into your diet you won't ever want to stop!!
