My tips on how to fight Depression! The spiral!
Let's not lie to ourselves, there are always times in life when we feel a bit blue. Wheather your Will Smith (probably the happiest man alive) or a pro Europe supporter after brexit! Theres always times in life where things get rubbish and we retreat to the sofa for 3weeks re-watching Breaking Bad and illuminati videos. These times are invertible... Here are a few ways in my opinion you can fight the fear and get back out smashing yo shizzel! This is in order of importance to me.
Fist things first is DIET.
I know its tempting when your down to go and devour a dominos and five beers/shots. Its seems like the only thing to get you back. But we all know it does more damage that good and doesn't solve any issues! Diet has a massive impact on the way your body produces certain feel good chemicals. A good stable diet of fruit, vegetables, fibres, good fats and protein will really help boost your happy chemicals and get you smiling again. Personally stay away for simple grain foods like sugar, burger buns, crossiants and other delicious baked goods ;). Aim towards lush organic produce and only eat real food. If it wasn't around 1000 years ago, don't eat it. Heres an example of some amazing foods to help. Avocados, bananas, organic eggs, almonds, organic wild salmon, coconuts, blueberries, goji berries, sweet potatoes, all types of green vegetables etc.... Also include high probiotic foods. (Read my other blog for details) I would also recommend some supplements like Spirilina, Macs Root, D12 supplements and Turmeric. I'm going to do another blog in more detail but you get the idea. EAT GOOD!
Secondly EXERCISE.
I know this is a bit cliche but exercise really helps. Proven to help relieve stress and also get those feel good chemicals working again! Personally i try and lifts weights 3 times a week, gets those muscles poping whilst also releases more testosterone into the blood stream and lowers cortisol (Stress chemical) which for men and women is good to fight depression. 70% of men in the US are low in testosterone! After a good workout you feel amazing, it makes you feel alive and ready to take on the world.
Thirdly its HOBBIES
Way too often people get caught up working all week and not actually working on projects and things that love doing. Getting back into producing music, bike riding, swimming, gaming, carpentry, whatever it is its a great way to get a purpose back on your own terms. You'll feel more unpowered and have a lot more to talk about when meeting up with friends and family. Hobbies also opens doors to new opportunities which will push up your motivation! Remember motivation is a muscle in your brain which can be trained. The more you push yourself to complete tasks the more tasks you will complete and the easier it will become to complete tasks. (hope that made sense) haha
Things like meditation, holidays, retreats, yoga, therapy also help. The list goes on but the top three are in my opinion very important and if your reading this i hope you give them a try.
To Conclude this blog is this:
Unfortunately in life when things are bad the world has a way of still kicking you down even further. Its almost like a downwards spiral which keeps getting harder to climb. Il elaborate, Everything I've mention above are all linked and effect one another. For example: Eating unhealthy then leads to irritable mood which then leads to annoyed boss which then leads to bad night sleep which then leads to not exercising which then leads to no time for hobbies which then leads to depression which then leads to...... You get my point?? The negatives keep building up and you get pushed down further and further making it even more difficult to reverse the spiral. What I've learnt is that the world doesn't owe you anything and the only way to start moving in the right direction is to go back to basics. Nail down the easy things in life like diet, exercise and hobbies. Take a big step back from your life and wake up and have a really good breakfast. The great thing about this spiral is that it can be reversed and as it does the positives start to build up and it gets easier and easier to enjoy life not get bogged down!
