Mental and Emotional health and how it affects The body
Mental health is a level of psychological well-being or an absence of mental illness.
It is the “psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioural adjustment
According to the world health organization (W.H.O) mental health includes “subjective well being perceived self efficacy, autonomy, competence, intergenerational dependence and self actualization of one’s intellectual and emotional potential among others It is the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationship with other people and producing the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity. Mental health refers to a state of being related to the brain/mind and thoughts, feelings and behaviours that exists on a spectrum from optimal functioning to debilitating mental illness.
Emotional health refers to well being and the way someone views, and lives a life of wellness.
Emotional health is a state of positive psychological functioning. It can be thought of as an extension of mental health; it’s the optimal functioning” and of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that make up both our inner and outer worlds.
People who have good emotional health are aware of their thought, feelings, and behaviours. They have learned healthy ways to cope with stress and problems that are a normal part of life, they feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships.
However many things that happen in your life can disrupt your emotional health.
Back pain
Change in appetite
Chest pain
Constipation or Diarrhoea
Dry mouth
Extreme tiredness etc.
HOW TO IMPROVE OR MAINTAIN GOOD EMOTIONAL HEALTH.
Be aware of all your emotions and reactions. Notice what in your life makes you sad, frustrated or angry and try to address or change those things
Express your feeling in appropriate ways
Think before acting
Manage stress etc.
A nutritious, balanced diet and regular physical activity can positively influence your state of mind and emotional well being as much as your physical well being.
Also, participating in creative, spiritual and intellectual activities along with community involvement help to balance out a healthy lifestyle
