WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MENSTRUAL CYCLE AND OVULATION PERIOD
I do volunteer tutoring for GDI, GDI stands for girls power initiative, and it is a program that is run by a nigerian non governmental organization that empowers young adolescent girls with information that guides them into being better women in character and learning for the society.
Today while preparing my lecture for the girls it occurred to me there are a lot of girls even women (its also a useful information for men as it could come in handy someday) that aren’t informed on this so I decided to make this into a steemit post.
ofcourse this can’t take the place of talking to a healthcare professional, but this should give a good general understanding of how it all works.
First thing I would like to point out is that your body is the best teacher on this subject matter and you have to listen to your body and understand it. Lets get started.
MENSTRUAL PERIOD
This is the first day of the menstrual cycle, If the egg an ovary releases every month isn't fertilized, the lining of your uterus sheds through the vagina. This is what is called the menstrual period. The amount of blood that comes out of the body is known as menstrual flow. Whether the flow is light, moderate, or heavy, it's all considered normal.
MENSTRUAL CYCLE
This can simply be explained as the frequency of menstrual periods, how many days it takes from one menstrual period to another, this is different for different women but usually ranges between 21 to 37 days. It is possible for menstrual cycle to be regular at some point in a woman’s life due to a number of factors including illness, stress, exercise etc so its completely normal to experience irregular menstrual cycle once in a while.
OVULATION PERIOD
This is the period when ovulation occurs, ovulation is the processes that makes pregnancy possible, this usually takes place 12 to 16 days before the next menstrual period starts and happens once in every menstrual cycle when hormone changes trigger an ovary to release an egg.
Here are elementary steps to calculate the ovulation period
1.from the first day of the menstrual cycle pick up a calendar
count 15 days including day one of the menstrual cycle
mark the 15th day win a pen (circle it)
mark 3 days before the 15th day
mark 3 days after the 15th day
take a look at the calendar and you would notice you have marked 7 days, these are the ovulation/fertile days. This means unprotective intercourse on these days has a 98 percent chances of being pregnant.
THESE ARE THE MAJOR TELL TELL SIGNS OF OVULATION
1.Headache
2.Body temperature rises (sometimes you touch
a girl and her body is hot but she is not sick)
3.Dizziness(feeling of tiredness and sleepiness )
4.Breast tenderness/size increases just like when
you are menstruating.
5.Increased sex drive(sugar body)
6.Light cramping or pain on one side of the
pelvis
7.Abdominal bloating.
8.Heightened sense of smell, taste or vision(you
eat more too).
You can always download the ovulation calculator app into your phone or buy an ovulation predictor kit if manual calculations isn’t preferred.
