I can’t sleep again...

Have you ever felt something like that? You’re lying in your bed, you close your eyes and… nothing happens. You’re still awake. You’re changing your position hundreds of times, but still, you just can’t sleep. After long fight you just give up.

It’s 3:30 am. He’s in bed, but he just can’t fall asleep. It’s too hot with a blanket, it’s too cold without it. He knows, that sleep will come, but when? Isn’t it too late now? He won’t wake up next day fully recovered. He needs to sleep now. He needs to sleep. He needs… to sleep. Needs to… sleep. Sleep…

Insomnia, because this is how it’s called, is everyday becoming more and more common in society. People live in stress, they work at night or it’s the only time, when they can relax with some TV series or video games. It’s bad for our health, as our body clock starts to get crazy and makes us sleepy during the day, and unable to sleep during the night. Sleeping to late hours only makes it worse, because it sets our clock some time ahead.

Only sleeping was in some way valuable for him. “It’s like being dead for some time” he used to say. But now, after starting his treatment, he can’t do that as easily as always. He was convinced, that these pills was only making it worse. The last drop of pleasure got lost.

Insomnia is not only sickness, but a side-effect as well. Medicine for depression like sertraline can make us unable to sleep. I know that from my own experience. It’s 4:03 am in Poland right now and I not only just can’t fall asleep, but I have a great deal of inspiration. That’s why I’m writing about that to you.

“They don’t know… They think that it’s my fault… But I really just… can’t…”

It’s important to show people how significant is sleeping, and why we have to care about our energy. We need it every day to just live and be ourselves. Also people have to understand that sometimes it’s not their fault. Depression is not only “being sad”. Insomnia is not only “being not sleepy”.

One thing is definitely true about insomnia. It’s hard to deal with it and it slowly destroys us. That’s why you have to sleep.
